What is a Hurricane
A hurricane is a swirl of clouds that continuously grows over warm waters. It weakens as it hits land because of the loss of moisture. Hurricanes are measured by categories, 5 being the highest resulting in uprooted houses and snapped trees and 1 being the lowest with minimal flooding.
Where Rita Hit
Rita hit the Gulf Coast on September, 2005 weeks after Hurricane Katrina, causing many to evacuate in distress for its current state was a category five. Thankfully it lowered even more rapidly than it had risen, back to a category 2.Though there was pretty severe damage caused to Louisiana due to a storm surge.

- It caused 19 tornadoes with only 4 casualties
- It began in the same place as Katrina
- The highest winds were 180mph and low of 895mbar
Ecosystems Affected
The storm damaged the Mississippi delta. Heavy losses in commercial fishing. It caused 172 billion dollars in repairs
