A Note From The Principal
Greetings Parents & Scholars,
This Week! Although this week marks the end of Black History Month, it does not end the dialogue we must continue to have about the contributions and achievements of African Americans both at school and home. It is important our scholars know their rich history and the positive impact their ancestors have made on our nation. I greatly appreciate the hard work our scholars demonstrated while participating in our Black History Month (BHM) program. I must admit kindergarten stole my heart with their rendition of “Lift Every Voice & Sing”. This song has often been referred to as the National Negro Anthem. I recall hearing it being sung for many years in our churches and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. When you get a moment review the various links showcasing our scholars in our BHM program.
Kudos again! Special thanks to our staff that worked diligently with our scholars on this BHM program. My appreciation also goes to Kim and Jane for your dedication and guidance to the overall success of our program.
Looking Ahead. There are approximately three weeks from the administering of the IREAD state assessment to our 3rd grade scholars and about 5 to 6 weeks from administering of the ILEARN state assessment to our 3rd – 8th graders. Please continue to encourage our scholars to participate in class, to come to class on time ready to learn and to be fully engaged in their learning. Together we can close academic gaps and make the necessary advancements. We can not afford to lose sight of the goal. Please remember if you need any assistance with your devices or Wi-Fi hotspots let us know immediately. Any barrier that stands in the way of your advancement is one to many.
Scholars First,
Dr. Sue Starr

Technology Troubleshooting Guide
STEM Update
As we take on the new year, we will continue to learn how to program. Programming on the computer is a segue to the new chapter in our STEM class. We want to engage scholars with hands-on activities to keep them interested. Scholars need learning that keeps their minds wondering and with hands-on activities we believe that we can achieve the level of enthusiasm and engagement that we are looking for.
Having STEM gives our scholars the ability to learn about different professions that they might not be exposed to. As the school year continues, we will indulge in topics and terminology that will increase their mindset to change the world.
