Message from our counselor:
Hello Washington Parents!
The Elementary School Counselors in the Boise High Quadrant are excited to intive you to two upcoming Popcorn/Movie Nights at Boise High.
Our goal is to get people in the Boise High community together and watch films that address issues facing our kids. The first two movies are The Mask You Live In on November 9th, followed by Miss Representation on February 6th. We will begin the shows at 6:00 PM in the Boise High auditorium. Admission is free although we do ask you to RSVP (links below). The movies are about 90 minutes. We will follow each movie with an informal (and optional) discussion lasting 45 minutes.
Both films articulate major concerns regarding the messaging power of media and its destructive impact on adolescent identity and mental health. In a society where media is the most persuasive force shaping cultural norms, the collective message we receive is that a woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality, and not in her capacity as a leader. At the same time, our boys confront messages encouraging them to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and degrade women, and resolve conflicts through violence. The internalization of these ideas increases levels of depression and anxiety and inhibits our kids' ability to learn, thrive, and be comfortable in their own skin.
We are inviting all parents of elementary students in the Boise Quadrant to attend. The films are considered suitable for ages 15 and up. Childcare will be provided by Boise High students onsite during the events. We hope to enjoy the evening and learn something about helping our kids be healthy and confident. Click below to learn more and RSVP.
And please, spread the word!

Message from Dr. Olson:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Boise Independent School District is committed to creating and maintaining school
environments in which the emotional and physical safety of students, staff, parents and
others is a priority. Schools cannot ignore any threat of violence. When threat making
behaviors occur schools initiate a process called Threat Assessment. Here is a link to the Student Threat Assessment Parent/Guardian Notification
Thank you!
