What I'm Reading

Every School Should Tell Its Story - While I still don't love the term "branding" as it relates to school public relations and communication, I do think you should celebrate the goodness that's happening within your school's walls and share with a greater audience and your school community.

Teaching Information Literacy Now - Take a look at the CARS and IMVAIN methods for evaluating sources

Audrey Watters' Year in Review and What Happened in Ed-Tech in 2016 (And Who Paid for It?) because I want to be Audrey when I grow up and her research and writing always helps me see beyond "ed tech" as it exists for most of the people in my network.

Frederick County's Call to Administrators: Focus on the "Innovator" and "Early Adopter" First - I did this, both as a principal and as an instructional technology coach. I'm a firm believer that building capacity among those in your organization is the only way to move the entire school forward with whatever initiative you're implementing. I also think teacher leaders have a lot of influence over their peers and expertise should be shared among teachers and teams often. (This requires a schedule created in the spirit of learning first, with lots of collaborative times built into the calendar year.)

What's a PLN? Why do I need one?

If you're at FETC and are new to using digital technologies to connect with other educators, or you know someone who is, please consider attending my session on Thursday, 1/26 at 4:20 PM! I'm looking forward to learning from the fantastic folks at FETC this year!
