Weekly Update
October 1, 2019
Hello Everyone,
I was not able to send out a newsletter last weekend, so here is a mid-week update. Please see below for information regarding Open House and progress reports.
Do not forget that we have a faculty meeting on Monday, October 7. We will be continuing our work with our teams by completing a Teacher-Student Connection Activity. Our meeting will be held in the library. Lastly, make sure to submit any nominations for Faculty Superstar by the start of the day of the faculty meeting (Monday). Thank you!

Tips for a Great Open House Night
Remember, Open House (or Back-to-School Night) is NOT a time for individual conferences. The ten minutes per session will go fast. Below are some tips for a great Open House!
Give a short presentation about your class.
- Tell a little about yourself - they want to know if you are approachable!
- Give an overview of the most exciting things you have planned for the school year
- Explain how you generally structure your block of time with their children (e.g., activator, discovery activity, summarizing, exit ticket)
- Do not harp on state assessments and tests but let parents know that your instruction is aligned with state standards
- Outline your approach to behavior and classroom rules
- Discuss the methods of communication you will use (e.g., newsletters, Remind App, class webpage, team page)
- If you have time, you can take general questions.
Have a self-running sign-in system. (e.g., sign-in sheet on desk near door; pass sign-in sheet on clipboard around the classroom) Ask for parent/guardian names, child's name, and phone number.
Have informational materials ready to pass out.
Have work samples on display in your classroom.
What do parents/guardians want from Open House?
1) A clean and organized classroom where they child can take ownership of their learning;
2) A warm and friendly teacher who is welcoming; and
3) An informal, straight-forward presentation that gives an overview of what their child's year will be like.
And remember, SMILE! Our Parents/Guardians are grateful to have you in their children's lives and want to support you!
