Charleroi STEM Club BOTS Competition
Members of Charleroi High School’s STEM club have partnered with Ductmate Industries in Monongahela to construct a battle bot to enter the BotsIQ competition. Preliminary competition takes place March 18 at WCCC in Youngwood, with finals to be held April 8-9 at California University’s convocation center.
The bot consists of an aluminum frame, lexan cover, and spinning weapon. Each round of competition is a three minute bout between two battling bots. Overall scores are made up of equal amounts of fighting scores and documentation scores.
This year’s team consists of Seniors David Kuenzel (team captain), Sienna Petrusak-Vanicky (documentation specialist), Ryan Perumal, and Anna Iacovino, Juniors Sam Marchewka and Joe Weber, Sophomore Savanna Spazak, and Freshman Anna Kuenzel.

Gary Myers _ he has previous head coaching experience at Elizabeth Forward and Chartiers Valley High Schools
Traci Fleming - She is currently an assistant soccer coach in our Girl's Varsity Soccer program at Charleroi.
These two candidates will interview before the school board on Tuesday, March 16th during the Athletic Committee meeting beginning at 4:30 PM.
8th to 9th grade Student Transitions
We will be having our first meeting with the 8th graders this Friday, March 4th, pds. 1 (7:54), 2 (8:38), 3 (9:22), 6A (11:34), and 7th (12:52) in the community room. High School students are joining Mrs. Toth, Dr Mason and myself in talking to the 8th graders. We are just briefly going over expectations of high school, mostly in regards to academics, going over requirements, discussing electives, and then offering each of their best piece of advice to them regarding classes in the high school.
Scheduling for next year classes will begin to take place with the 8th graders next week and counselors will meet with the 8th graders again through Ms. Furman's Middle School classes in April to further continue dialog about transitioning to high school.
Charleroi Boy's Basketball Record
Congratulations to Sam Miceli, an eleventh grade Boy's Varsity Basketball Player at Charleroi who scored 521 points this year for a 23.7 average.
This accomplishment ranks him #2 all time in scoring average all time at Charleroi behind Jimmy "Mouse" Chacko's 25.6 ppg in the 1958-59 seasons.
In fact, since Jimmy "Mouse" Chacko's accomplishment over 50 years ago, only two other players have averaged over 20 points in a season. Bill Long (1967) and Andre Costantino in (1984) are the only other players to accomplish this feat in Charleroi basketball history.
Job well done Sam.
Congratulations to the Charleroi Varsity Quiz Bowl Team
A special note of congratulations to Jared Miller for earning the Academic League's top honors at the Academic League Awards Ceremony on 2/29/16. Jared earned the Top Scorer Award, earning 480 points in his high school career and was presented a $1500 scholarship to help him with college. This scholarship is sponsored by cfsBank, Froggy Radio, Highway Appliance, Lee Supply, McDonalds (Charleroi and Bentleyville), Model Cleaners, Mon Valley Signs, Mon Valley Tire and the Valley Independent.

Global Passport Project - Charleroi Students partnering with Local Businesses
Mission:
To present an opportunity for 9th through 12th grade students to collaborate with businesses and or institutions to provide solutions to real time/real world business problems through a proven student led, project based learning model.
Objective:
The world of 2015 is significantly different than that old world of 2005. With these changes comes the need for global youth to connect since their adult world will be interwoven more than ever before.
The goal is to provide an academically productive, socially responsible, problem solving learning experience on building global cultural literacy through virtual teaming for 9th through 12th grade average learners. Traditionally higher level and lower level learners are given more opportunity to excel and or advance through academic and social programs, leaving the average learner to move ahead on their own. The GPP recognizes this dichotomy and as such seeks to provide these students with an opportunity to apply their academic skills to real world issues. Providing this opportunity for the average students not only is a unique learning experience but also a self esteem motivation tool as they realize a sense of purpose and accomplishment while presenting their solutions to businesses professionals. Furthermore the students learn to understand and develop the 21st Century Skills they will need to be successful in their career paths. The skills, team work, communication, problem solving, research, data analysis, creativity, extensive use of social media for research purposes, effective listening, cross cultural awareness, become the cornerstone of the learning curve for all participants
