Stay tuned Monday morning!
🎃 Halloween Returns to Avoca West 🎃
Following the parade, class parties will take place from approximately 1:30-2:30, allowing visiting volunteer to move cars so that we can have a smooth end of day dismissal. Each class will be limited to 3-4 volunteers total (no younger siblings, please). Our caregivers should expect communication from PTC room parents and specifics of what is needed for the celebration. Thank you PTC for organizing a fun afternoon for our students!
In alignment with our mission of nurturing diversity, we will consider more inclusive ways to celebrate with a Fall Festival of sorts -- much like Marie Murphy is doing. For those students who do not celebrate Halloween, Spirit Wear is always an option!

Gender Upstander Workshops are 60-min sessions, Thursday, October 6th designed to engage students in creating a safe and supportive community. We'll practice identifying and challenge harmful gender stereotypes & communicate respectfully about gender & family diversity. For 5th grade this is part of a series (join us Jan 12th for an overview of Puberty & Reproductive Systems Workshops)
If you were unable to join us live last week for our adult facing workshop, check out the recording HERE. Passcode: LHDH%9sL
After viewing the recording, please take our caregiver survey. You can find more resources on having conversations at home on consent, gender, and health topics on our caregiver resource list!
Monday Night's Erin's Law (Victor Pacini) Zoom was NOT recorded.
Living the Mission & Values
As long wish of mine has been to find a way to be intentional about pulling student voice to the forefront as I make decisions at AW. Last week, our first ever Leadership Lunch took place (think "Student Council," but without the voting for who represents) and it was AMAZING to hear what representatives from all of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms had to say. They shared their points of pride for Avoca West and also generated ideas for areas to improve or change. We'll use these ideas to land on a place to dive into and problem solve for positive, student-led, action this fall. Thank you, leaders!
Finally, we would be lost without Mr. J and Ms. Eva and spent Monday making them feel special on the annual Custodian Appreciation Day. They're certainly VIPs at AW!
