Lil Steamer Families --
I have three major updates in this week's newsletter.
1) AIMSweb winter benchmarking. This week our K-5 students completed their winter testing to help us identify their academic growth and look at ways to best support our learners. Grade 4 & 5 should have received printed results this week. Grades K-3 will receive their printed results next week. Please check your student's backpacks/folders. If you have any questions regarding your child's progress, please reach out to their respective homeroom teacher.
2) Books Are Fun! Next week, grades PK-5 will get to participate in our Books Are Fun initiative which will provide books to ALL of our students. On Monday, January 29 each student will be coming home with a Treasure Map and directions for our families and friends to help them earn books!
3) The Start of Construction. On February 8, construction begins at FES and will make our daily routines a bit more challenging. We have made changes to our drop-off and pick-up procedures. We may need to make changes to best accommodate student safety during this period of time. We ask that you be patient and extend our school staff grace over the next several months as we adjust to these changes.
While this construction process will be uncomfortable for everyone over the next several months, we are focused on the long-term results that will benefit our students and staff. And, if you have any questions or suggestions, I would be more than happy to hear from you. Email me at jhoese@riverbendschools.net or give me a call at 815-589-2911.
Have an amazing weekend!

We joined over 19 million students in over 39,000 schools in participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. I want to extend a special “Thank You” to parents for encouraging their children to participate and complete the acts of kindness. We witnessed children doing kind acts such as offering compliments to one another and drawing pictures for their friends. Children are encouraged to continue to spread kindness every day. Sometimes all it takes is a friendly smile and a helping hand.

Capturing Kids Hearts in 3B
AR Points
Congratulations are in order for 4th grader, Kiki Swanson! She has earned 200 AR points. Her favorite books include the Warriors series and Harry Potter. WAY TO READ, Kiki!
Wordle
0.04% - That’s the odds of getting the Wordle of the Day correct on the very first guess. Well Jackson in 4B has beat the odds! On Thursday, his “GREAT” word was the Wordle of the Day! How Lucky!
4A Celebrates with a Pizza Party
4A has been working to implement the Capturing Kids Hearts characteristics. As they showed respect, responsibility, team work and self-directing, the students earned stones in a jar. These were rewarded as single stones for an individual student and as whole group. The first week of January the students filled the jar. After some rescheduling the students finally got to celebrate their accomplishment with a bit of pizza and some other goodies. CONGRATULATIONS to the 4A class and keep up the great examples of Leadworthy Characteristics.
Positions Available for 24-25 School Year
Just a reminder that all students need to have gym shoes for P.E.
