From the desk of Mrs. Wyman...
Thank you for your feedback on the morning arrival survey. If you have not yet had a chance to take the quick 3-question survey, take it here.
As we head into the last couple of weeks of Quarter 1, I want to remind you to keep an eye on your child(ren)'s grades and attendance in PowerSchool. When our staff meets with you during conferences, we will provide your child(ren)'s report card and Fall MAP data. If your child(ren) have accumulated 5 or more absences/tardies in the first quarter, they will receive an attendance/tardy letter from the office, per the District Handbook guidelines.
I wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about our new math curriculum and materials that our staff and students are using in our classrooms. Our K-2 classrooms are using materials called "Kindie/Firstie/Second Math" that provide opportunities for whole group, partner, small group, and game-based learning for our youngest Patriots. There are lots of hands-on opportunities for our students to conceptualize numbers and build their number sense and develop as mathematicians. Our 3-6 classrooms adopted Reveal Math, with online resources including daily exit tickets to provide immediate feedback to the student and teacher on their understanding. In addition, our students are using an add-on entitled Aleks that provides individualized learning paths for students to target specific math skill deficits and challenge students with new math skills. These Aleks pathways can be customized for each student. The Reveal Math series is an adjustment for our students (and staff!) as it places a stronger emphasis on mathematical reasoning and application. The lessons promote student explanation of their answers and the identification of which strategies helped them solve the problem. The students are developing their collaboration skills, communication skills, and reasoning skills as they solve complex math problems. We are blessed to have Mrs. Dirks, Math Teacher, in our building to support the implementation of our new series and to co-teach with our 3-6 teachers. If you have any questions about our new series or would like to see the materials in person, please inquire during your schedule parent/teacher conference or contact your child(ren)'s teacher.
We are fortunate to have a beautiful building for our students and staff to come each day to learn. We have been celebrating all of the positive choices our students are making by distributing PATS cards. PATS stands for - Positive role model, Acting responsible, Thinking of others, and Showing respect. We invite you to remind you child(ren) that they are a member of our Patriot family and we need all students to make good choices in their classrooms, in the hallways, in the bathroom, in the lunchroom, at recess, etc to ensure all students are able to access learning in a positive, safe environment.
Thank you for your continued partnership! We appreciate you!
We wanted to introduce you to some of our newest Patriot Staff Members for 2021-22. Welcome to the Jefferson Family!
