Meet the Parent Advisory Council
This year's Parent Advisory Council has been meeting monthly to provide feedback on current school issues, help plan and volunteer at school events, as well as review materials for School Improvement and development. We'd like to take a moment to introduce each of them to you, as well as share why each of them joined our team.
Attendance Matters
Attendance Incentive: The top three classes with the best attendance from January 22 - February 14 will win gourmet cupcakes for their Love of Learning party on February 16th. Our school flyer is included below with our family engagement events this month. We are also counting down the days until the 2024 Color Games begin in March. More information to come!
While the Winter temperatures and weather can be difficult, it is important that students are coming to school every day and on time. It is very difficult for students to make up missed instruction or testing. While we are always happy to provide missed assignments, they can not be a substitute for quality instruction. Please contact the front office or speak to Teresa Kidd or Veronica Bonilla if you need assistance with warm clothing or resources to help your child get to school comfortably and safely.
Parent Resource Lab
Schoology Support
Are you connected to your child's Schoology account? This is a great way to always be aware of your child's academic progress. To access your parent account please reach out to the school front office or Amber Wheeler (Waverley's Schoology Support amber.wheeler@fcps.org) and ask for the 12 digit Parent Access Code. When you have that code you will follow the directions below.
Black History Month Poster Contest (3rd, 4th and 5th grade)
In honor of Black History month, we are hosting a contest to encourage students to make posters of what Black History month means to them. Posters can include words or images that feature famous Black/African American historical figures, events - or even what Black History Month means for the student personally. All students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade are invited to participate! Posters should be turned in to Miss Burnett or Mrs. Rottmund by February 16th. Winners will be announced at our Hip Hop Celebration on February 21st!
Rooted in Wellness
February is American Heart Month! This is the perfect time to reflect on the importance of maintaining a healthy heart through nutritious eating habits. At Farm to School, we believe that fostering healthy lifestyles begins with what we put on our plates.
A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins not only supports our overall well-being but also plays an important role in promoting heart health. Encouraging our children to consume wholesome foods sets the foundation for a lifetime of good habits.
Here are a few tips to inspire heart-healthy eating habits all month long.
Week 1 Tip: Focus on fruit. Serve fresh fruit at breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks.
Week 2 Tip: Focus on vegetables. Challenge your family to eat vegetables everyday at lunch and dinner.
Week 3 Tip: Increase your fiber intake from whole grains such as whole wheat bread and brown rice.
Week 4 Tip: Fill a water bottle and drink water throughout the day.
By prioritizing mindful eating habits we empower ourselves and our families to lead heart healthy lives. Stay tuned for more tips this month including a “Heartful Habits Challenge” to help make positive changes towards a healthier future!

MOVING AND GROOVING WITH PE
We are continuing to learn about Basketball in PE. Students are able to discuss the history of the sport and practice the sport. We are working on our dominant hand and our non-dominant hand when we are dribbling. We are also stepping in opposition when we are passing the ball to a partner.
Please remember to wear your sneakers when you have PE!!!
