Martin Luther King, Jr. World Vision Food Packaging - Monday, January 18th

Volunteers are needed to help package 600 food kits for World Vision in the French A. See Side Dining Hall On Monday, January 18th, from 11:30AM-1:00PM and from 4:30 PM- 6:00 PM. One food kit can feed a family of four for a day and will be sent across the state and country to families living with food insecurity. Volunteers may sign up for any 30-minute time slot by emailing Erin Hudnall: Space is limited to 50 volunteers per time slot.

Kids and Families Lobby Day - Thursday, January 28th

Kids and Families Day is an annual lobbying event for the Our Children, Our Future (OCOF) organization to bring awareness to the WV Legislature about their campaign and the needs of working families and kids. Volunteers and advocates will be meeting with legislators to discuss the OCOF 2016 Policy Platform. In addition to legislative meetings, activities will go on for kids to participate in as well as advocacy training to assist those meeting with legislators.

Transportation will be provided by Wesleyan vans, which will depart from the Fountain Oval at 6:00 AM. It is anticipated that volunteers will return to campus around 4:00 PM.

Community Spelling Bee - Saturday, January 30th from 3:00-6:00 PM

Volunteers are needed to help with set up for the community spelling bee at Buckhannon-Upshur High School on Saturday, January 30th from 3:00-6:00 PM. Tasks include inflating balloons, plating cookies, and moving tables and chairs. Volunteers are requested to report to the first floor common area at 3:00 PM.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Service in Wesley Chapel- Monday, January 18th at 7:00 PM

The MLK celebration will continue on Monday evening as the campus and community come together in Wesley Chapel for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Service at 7 pm. The service will feature musical selections by students and a sermon given by Pastor John R. Faison from Watson Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. The service is free and open to the public.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Round Table Discussions - Tuesday, January 19th from 11:30 AM-12:50 PM in the French A. See Dining Center Side Dining Hall

College student leaders will host round-table discussions around modern controversies. Topics include the Black Lives Matter movement, service and white privilege, "But I have a black friend!," the Syrian refugee crisis, and many more topics. Discussions will be facilitated with open-mindedness and respect for diverse opinions. Join us to learn more, understand others' views, and add your voice to the conversation.


West Virginia Clean Water Conference - Tuesday, January 19th at 7:00 PM

The West Virginia Clean Water Conference will be held in the Performing Arts Center at West Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday, January 19th, at 7:00 PM. A new documentary, Elk River Blues, will be shown with a panel discussion to follow. The event will last approximately two hours.

Summer Service Opportunities

AmeriCorps Summer of Service - Horseshoe Leadership Center

AmeriCorps is looking for volunteers for the coming summer to serve as counselors, lifeguards, food service workers, and in facility upkeep at the Horseshoe Leadership Center's summer camp. Volunteers will be engaged from May 24th to July 30th for training and camp work. Volunteers will receive room and board, a weekly living allowance, and an educational stipend. Interested volunteers are encouraged to apply immediately.
