Wednesday Word
Sunflower Elementary School
From the Principal
We have had a great first week and a half of school! Just a reminder that today is our first early dismissal, we release students at 2:20. This week we have spent a lot of time building relational capacity with and among our scholars and we have spent intentional time teaching our BEST expectations in all locations (see our matrix below). We have welcomed almost 100 more scholars than we had in the building last year. Thank you for your partnership in helping our start to be a positive one.
Next week we will begin our math and reading screening assessments. The district has adopted a new screening tool called FastBridge. We will use this data from this assessment tool to determine what each of our scholars needs in order to be successful in reading and math. Some scholars may show a need for tier 2 and 3 interventions and/or enrichments on specific skills and others may show that our tier 1 instruction is working well for them. Our K-1 testing is done one-on-one and will take most of next week and then we will follow with our 2nd-5th grade scholars.
A couple reminders, you may want to label your child's water bottle with their name in the event they leave it in PE, lunch, etc. It is easier to get it back to them that way. Also at 8:45 we close the K-1 and 4-5 arrival doors so all students arriving 8:45 or later will come through the main doors.
Finally, our staff has been incredibly impressed with our scholars' manners. We have heard a lot of please and thank you's as students enter the building, at lunch and dismissal. Way to go Sunflower Scholars!
As always it is an honor to serve as the principal of Sunflower Elementary.
