3rd Grade - Week 4
What's been happening...
Reading: We have finally completed all our reading tests in class. The children have worked hard and we can now begin our guided reading groups and focus on the core standards. We will be continuing our unit on launching reading, which will then lead into character work.
Math: This week we have been learning about methods for subtraction and reviewing addition strategies. Next week we will be giving out study guides for the end of unit test which will take place on Monday 28th September. We will use the study guide in class and then it will be sent home so you can work with your child. We will also be covering comparing numbers and quadrilaterals.
Social studies: During this week, we have been working on our North America project. The children have been using atlases and maps to locate counties, states and capital cities. I have included some pictures in the newsletter. Next week we will be moving on to Science and beginning to learn about the body.
Math quiz: I have had a few parents contact me regarding the 10 problem quiz on a Friday. Children are allowed to use their notebook to support them during the test. They will also have the opportunity to re-take the test later in the week if they don't achieve 100%. We cover all the questions/skills in class time and provide homework that is also linked to the quiz. Please email me if your child needs any extra support or if you would like to ask a question regarding this.
