What is Digital Citizenship?
Digital Citizenship is the act of behaving positively and responsibly on the internet. Your digital citizenship is defined by the content you post online, how you interact and portray yourself to the internet world, and what choices you make online. Most people tend to think of social media sites when thinking of digital citizenship. However, digital citizenship extends beyond that, emails, YouTube, what you view, text messages, posts, and many more.
Why Is It Important?
In today's modern society, technology is a huge part of our daily lives. Everyone, from children to grandparents to parents, we all have access to the Internet. It is necessary to be aware of how to efficiently use this very powerful technology to maximize the benefits of it. By knowing how to use the Internet properly it will lead to a whole new level of understanding and learning.
Just like in life, there are rules or standard that you have to follow. In the internet world, they are called netiquettes. There are a few simple rules to follow to ensure that you and your child are safe online.
1. Know your privacy settings... you never know who can view your info
2. Using common sense (assume everyone is watching)
3. Thinking before you post
4. assume everyone is watching (think about your reputation and how others will see you)
Think Before You Type
What you say to others online can be hurtful, so choose your actions wisely.
Do Not Misuse The Internet
Although, the internet is great for research, do not be tempted to plagiarize or steal ideas that are not yours. You could get into trouble.
Be Smart, Be Safe
The internet is great technology, use it appropriately and have fun.
