Note from Mrs. Taylor!
I hope your children enjoyed dressing up for Red Ribbon Week! It was great to see the mismatch, twins, and sportswear down the halls of the building. Enjoy the weekend with your family and all the Fall festivities!!!
BIST Tip:
There are 5 steps of accountability:
- I did it
- I’m sorry
- It is a problem in my life – kids need to get to this level before they can truly change the behavior, if the behavior has become repetitive.
- I accept the consequences
- I accept help
1st Step: I did it!
It takes a lot of responsibility for a child to admit they have played a part in making bad choices that are either hurtful or disruptive. The child is given as much time as needed until they are ready to talk about what happened. The child must be genuine when accepting ownership of a problem.
Holly Festival for DARE
Lee’s Summit CARES will sponsor its annual Holly Festival Craft Fair Nov. 12 and 13 at Bernard Campbell Middle School, 1201 NE Colbern Road. The fair is a benefit for the Lee’s Summit Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program.
The Holly Festival includes more than 80 craft booths as well as a concession stand and bake shop. The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 13. Admission is free. Santa Claus will be a special guest at the event. In addition, the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce is offering a health fair during the festival on Nov. 12.
Thanks to numerous volunteers and donations from the local community, all proceeds from the Holly Festival go to the Lee’s Summit DARE Unit to purchase educational materials that reinforce the DARE lessons. The popular local event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for DARE since the first Holly Festival in 1994.
Individuals interested in volunteering for this community event may visit this website.
