Serve to Change Lives

President's Message

Dear Rotarians,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your president in this next Rotary year.

After a very challenging time, I feel there is a lot of hope, optimism and excitement to once again being able to meet in person - to enjoy fun and fellowship, to network and embrace the human connection. We still have some challenges ahead, but as a united group with a common goal, I am sure we will all overcome them.

I was very happy when I saw that Shekhar Mehta, our Rotary International President, has identified this year’s theme as “Serve to Change Lives.” As you remember, when our past President Philomena did a survey last year, we saw that our club felt the most important thing was to SERVE. It was a bit difficult last year to put that service into action, but now that we are open again, we can go out into our community and do service projects.

Over the last few months your board has worked diligently to put “ the Rotary wheels into motion” so that our Rotary year will start without a hitch LOL and we can concentrate on the things that are important to us: service, fellowship, fun, fundraising, and increasing our membership, to name a few.

Together we will make this next year the best ever! Let’s challenge ourselves to do more, to grow individually and collectively, and most of all to have fun doing it. As International President Shekhar Mehta says, “Let us Serve to Change Lives.”

Looking forward to a wonderful Rotary Year!

Meeting Locations for July in Transition

Thanks to the generosity of fellow Rotarian Jacquie Williams-Courtright, we are able to meet in person for our first meeting this month at Alden Lane Nursery! Please park on the street and enter the nursery through the gate on Holmes, as the parking lot is currently closed for repairs.

We will be serving coffee, water, orange juice and pastries. Please RSVP to let Angelika know if you will be attending the meeting so that we can prepare accordingly.

We are still in the process of finding a permanent meeting home. We would like to return to Beeb's, but they are not yet prepared to host us. We are exploring other options as well. We do anticipate that restaurants and other venues will all become more available and equipped to serve breakfast as they regain their pre-COVID staffing levels. We anticipate needing to continue to meet via Zoom for at least some of our meetings for the next few months.

Please check your weekly email from Angelika to confirm each week's meeting venue and Zoom link.

When we discussed our club's preference for meetings last spring, we had an almost unanimous desire to meet in person, once conditions permitted. Several members indicated they would appreciate a hybrid option. We will plan on offering a hybrid meeting on Tuesday so that those who are unable to attend in person can participate via Zoom. (At this point we are not sure how good the WiFi will be, as it is spotty at Alden Lane. So the hybrid version of the meeting might not be as perfect as we would want it to be.)

Angelika will be sending another survey to all members next week to hear our preferences for meeting locations and accommodations. The Board will review the survey results and come up with a short term plan so that we will have some consistency in our schedule and be able to plan.

Please check out our meeting programs later in this newsletter.
