Principal's Note

I hope your Thanksgiving holiday weekend was filled with loved ones and happy memories. My daughter surprised us and flew in for the week from Washington DC. We had a wonderful time talking, eating, and enjoying family time.
This month I have been spending time observing instruction in each and every classroom. I am talking with students and watching them learn. Students and Teachers are working hard, and learning is happening throughout our school. The growth in three months is rewarding to observe and celebrate.
There will be no PTC Meeting this month. However I would encourage everyone to try to attend a meeting or evening event in the coming months. I look forward to opportunities to get to know each of you.

Unscheduled Early Dismissal - What’s your plan?

During an unscheduled early dismissal, schools will use the emergency closure plan you indicated for your student in enrollment and enrollment verification. During the online process, you were asked to indicate what the student should do in case of emergency or early school closure.

You were only allowed to choose one option. The three options were:

  • Pick up by Parent/Emergency Contact/Daycare
  • School Bus to Home/Neighbor/Daycare
  • Walk/Ride Bike/Drive to Home/Neighbor/Daycare

If you don’t remember what you selected, you can check by logging into ParentVUE and clicking on “Student Info” in the left hand navigation. Your selection will be displayed at the bottom of the page under “Other Data.”

If you wish to change this plan, contact your school or reference the “Online Registration/Enrollments and Verifications Guide.” *Please note, if you choose to update your information online, the information is not updated in the student information system until the school has accepted your verification. This process may take up to two weeks to be completed. The fastest way to update your information is to call the school.

Please make a note of the option you selected and keep the information somewhere handy, in the event of a future early school closure.

Lost and Found

Lost and Found is overflowing! We have many coats piling up. If your student is missing their coat, hat, or lunch box have them check the lost and found. During winter break all unclaimed items will go to the Beaverton Clothes Closet. We will return any items with names in them to the correct student.

Parking Lot Update

We continue to work on solutions to increase safety in the parking lot. After winter break we will begin a new process for afternoon pick-up. More information will be coming home about the changes. Currently, the side parking lot will be for staff only. This will help keep keep cars from crossing in and out of the traffic flow, and unsafe double parking. Please do not leave your car unattended in the pick up lane. This creates unsafe situations as cars try to go around, and stops the flow of traffic. Thank you for helping us keep all students safe.

Winter Break challenge

I am challenging students to read over winter break. Research states reading outside of school helps students continue to make progress, and stops any reading loss. Reading during break should be fun. Mrs. Kimball, our librarian, will be encouraging students to check out books before break. 20-30 minutes before technology time or before bed can make all the difference.

Eagle Eyes Monthly Contest

Each month students can use their eagle eyes to vote on a school wide reward. Every month the categories change. This is our way of celebrating Safe, Kind, Respectful behavior at Sexton Mountain. For November, a Hallway dance party was the winner!

District Volunteer Policy

Please make sure you sign in before volunteering in the office. Siblings are not allowed to accompany adults when they are volunteering during school hours. This is a district policy change this year. If you are visiting for lunch, siblings are welcome.
