Lyrics

Yes...

I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes
And make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long...
'cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...

Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall

Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday

And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
Torn apart

Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday

How long...
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long...
'cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...tonight...

Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Oh, wipe your tears away
Oh, wipe your tears away
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Oh, wipe your blood shot eyes
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)

Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)

And it's true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die

(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)

The real battle just begun
To claim the victory Jesus won
On...

Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday...

U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday

Important Lyrics

"And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
Torn apart"

These few couple lines show the overall importance of the song and its message. People were being killed for unjustified reasoning. This day was know as "The Day Innocence Died" meaning the right for being who you are and doing no wrong wasn't welcome in society. The families of the men killed were devastated and confused about the whole situation, and without peace, it could've happened again.

Bono as an Artist

The lead singer and creater of U2 named Paul David "Bono" Hewson has been known in the music industry as a protest artist. His music with U2 has earned him legions of devoted fans across the world, and as a humanitarian and crusader for the world's poor, co-founder of organisations such as DATA and the ONE Campaign. He has gained deep respect from politicians and global statesmen as well as music fans.

Issue

The lyrics of this song are referring to actual events that occurred on January 30th, 1972 where soldiers in the British Army fired on a group of civil right protestors and bystanders in the town of Derry, Northern Ireland. Thirteen men were killed that day and this is the basis for the U2 song of the same name. The band has come out and said this is an anti-war song that is not a call for rebels to unite, but actually a call for people to unite against violence. The song is from the 80's and the album was named "War". I agree with the message of the song becuase the lyrics do really show what happened and people should be aware of it. It is very important for the respect of those fallen. This song made significant impact on society because the song is still used today for Anti-War protests.
