ID Badges
ALL students must be wearing their ID and it should be visible at all times. Whether it be their school ID on a lanyard OR a temporary ID (sticker) badge, it MUST be worn.
If a student has lost their ID Badge, please replace it in the front office (it does cost money to replace an ID Badge).
If a student has forgotten their ID Badge, the consequence is last in line at lunch and no Snack Bar.
NEW
Students will be charged for an extensive number of temporary badges! Please be sure to use and wear your issued ID Badge.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are SHUT DOWN and PUT AWAY from 7:30a - 2:20p
- Student are expected to follow EPS expectations for cell phone use.
- There is a progressive plan if students are using their cell phone during the school day.
- If cell phone usage becomes habitual, it can lead to a parent picking up their cell phone in the Front Office.
Science
Hello Thunderhawks!
This week in science, students learned about Hurricanes! They learned about the where, when, why, and how! We will learn about how to mitigate the effects of hurricane damage next then students will learn about Tornadoes!
Students will have a quiz on hurricanes and tornadoes on Thursday, December 15.
Our Final Exam is scheduled for Monday, December 19. The test will cover everything students have learned this semester. They will get a study guide the week before.
English
Hello Thunderhawks!
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break, and we are excited to have our students back to finish up the first semester! We have wrapped up our unit over sentence fragments, run-on sentences, and comma usage. Even though we are not covering lessons each day over these standards, these skills will be practiced and utilized often as we continue on to new skills and continue to become better writers. This week we read “Animal Snoops”, and will use this nonfiction article to write a short essay next week.

Literacy
Happy December! We have reached the midway point of our class novel, The War That Saved My Life. We are working through comprehension questions, opinion questions with supporting evidence for our opinions, and vocabulary building. Students are enjoying the novel and we love sharing it with them.
Our semester final is on Monday, December 19th and it will be over the entire novel. Please make every effort to have your student(s) at school on that day as taking a final after Winter Break over a 300+ page novel is difficult for even the best reader!
Finally, please restock your student(s) pencils. We have multiple students asking each hour to borrow and they tell us they forget to restock at home.

Math / IA Pre-Algebra
6th Grade Math
This week we finished Unit 4 and started Unit 5. We learned about Rational numbers and practiced plotting them on a number line and comparing them. Next week we will continue working with comparing rational numbers and also start adding and subtracting integers.
Need Help in Math? Here’s what you can do:
Come see your math teacher during pre-advisory (7:10-7:40)
Come do a working lunch. (There is always 1 math teacher available during that time to offer help).
6th Grade IA Pre-Algebra
We ended the week with a quiz on Unit 4. This week we will review the unit and have our test on Wednesday. We will start Unit 5 Equivalent Expressions on Thursday. In this unit, we will use properties of operations to generate equivalent numerical and algebraic expressions. We will also apply understanding of order of operations and grouping symbols when using calculators and other technologies.

Geography
Hello ThunderHawk Families! Students finished up their Foundations of Geography Project last week, and we are moving on to begin our study of the United States this week. Students will start the Chapter 4-5 Unit by learning about the physical and political geography of the U.S. This will be our LAST unit of the semester in Western Hemisphere Geography!

Fall tips:
Simplify your life, slow down for self-care this fall.
Go outside! Get some fresh air and go for a walk,
Breathe and Breathe again! Breathe in for four seconds, hold your breath for four , breathe out for five seconds can signal to your body that you are in control and choosing to calm down. You can also download an app, such as “Pause” for meditation and there is a “Calm” app for breathing techniques.
You are now in the 2nd 9 weeks; be sure to keep up with your school work. Ask questions if you don’t understand a question.
