Kindergarten
This week in Kindergarten we learned about our Presidents! We had a great time comparing and contrasting past presents to modern day presidents, exploring their personal interests and political issues during their presidency. We also held in class mock elections some of our campaign platforms were longer recess, better playground and shorter school days!
We are still exploring rocks and soil and have learned a lot of porosity this week. During math we are still comparing measurements and learning on the hour and half past.
First Grade
Mrs. Beckmann’s class read “A Tree is a Plant” and learned about indefinite pronouns this week. We also began working on telling time to the hour and half hour which has been so much fun! Please remember to send in signed permission slips for our Gatorland field trip by March 1st!
Ms. Molnar’s class read The Garden this week in ELA. We learned about pronouns and the importance of repetition. We started a new chapter on comparing numbers in math. We are so excited for our Gatorland field trip in a couple weeks!
Second Grade
In honor of Black History Month, the second-grade team assigned a Biography in a Bag project. The students created an oral report based on an influential African-American in history. They brought items to school that represented milestones in their person’s life. Those items also naturally prompted them to speak on the topic. We loved the creativity that went into the decoration of the bag and unique items that came out of it.
We also had to say a bitter-sweet goodbye to Mrs. Cybulski’s seven chicks that helped our classes understand life cycles. We now are welcoming Mrs. Cybulski’s tiny larvae that will soon morph into beautiful butterflies!
Third Grade
Fourth Grade
Fifth Grade
Students did a wonderful job creating bio-posters of important African-American figures throughout history, including famous athletes, scientists, entrepreneurs, writers, politicians, activists, jazz musicians, and President. Student work was showcased at Black History night this past Thursday. It was a great time, and many thanks to all who attended. Also, many thanks to Grandma’s BBQ food-truck for being present as well. Their food was delicious!
Mr. Rego’s classes finished writing their second essay response to a DBQ (Document Based Question) where they had to answer a prompt, using five historic resources, and citing evidence from primary and secondary sources. The prompt was about the Jamestown Settlement (England’s first permanent settlement in the U.S.).
Students wrote a complete essay, including a full introduction, transitions, topic sentences in each paragraph, and two examples of evidence, two examples of elaboration in each body paragraph, as well as a concise conclusion.
On the topic of writing, 5th grade will be taking their final DEAW (Drop Everything and Write) on Tuesday, February 26. They should have a good night’s rest before, and a big breakfast on the day of. It will be the last one before the Writing FSA on April 2.
Also, the 5th grade field trip is coming up soon, and field trip forms are due 3/1/2019 (next Friday). Students should make sure to turn in their forms by that date.
Ms. Jensen’s and Mrs. Berray’s class had a visit from OUC (Orlando Utilities) this Friday. Students had a blast, as they experienced fun. Their purple banner also looked awesome at Thursday’s celebration.
Ms. Zaremski’s and Ms. Blaske’s students did a tremendous job with their bio-posters for Black History night.
All 5th grade students should make sure that they are keeping up on their Study Island assignments weekly. Their goal is to have earned all blue ribbons in Math, Science, and ELA by April.
Mr. Rego would like to thank the members of 6th-grade chorus who sang the classic jazz ballad, “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” They sounded spectacular!
Sixth Grade
Students taking Pre-Algebra and 7th grade level math have had a change to their curriculum. We are working on moving through each unit of standards to help with our instruction of the standards. Students have been working with ratios and rates, percentages, exponents, and scientific notation. They are working hard to review skills we have already learned as well as learn new skills. Students are still receiving Study Island assignments weekly that are due every Sunday night. We are looking forward to this new system in class and I am excited to see some new results!
