Crazy Doc's rant and raves...
- If you send a student to the focus room please do so with one of the tickets Casey has provided, that way she knows why they are there. If they do not have a ticket they will be sent back to class.
- Thank you to those who offered to help with the student teachers. I have placed them and emailed those teachers.
- Also, please work with your class on the cafeteria behavior. Casey is trying new thing to impact the environment and needs your support in doing so. Just thinking the cafeteria is someone else's problem is going to make the problem worse. Fifth grade currently has the worst behavior in the cafeteria by far.

Guided Math Connection
We are so excited to be bringing in Graham Fletcher to provide a numeracy workshop on April 3rd! Some of you may be familiar with Graham’s progression videos for numeracy. This workshop is meant to help teachers visualize the progressions for numeracy in addition and subtraction (K-2) and multiplication and division (3-5) as well as fluency in K-5 in order to better differentiate for students when implementing a workshop model.

Teacher Spotlight
Penny Olive has been recognized by a fellow staff member for her willingness and work with a very challenging student. She has been very willing to try anything to help make this student successful.
Do you have a idea for a person in the spotlight? Please let me know.
From Jessica
Did any of you attempt a Brain Smart Start this week? I encourage you to try building in connection routines or rituals for your students. This allows them to feel connected to their school "Family" and easily transition from any stress they may have experienced at home or on the way to school. Feel free to find me if you have questions or google Conscious Discipline brain smart starts to find more resources.
I'd like to introduce another Conscious Discipline tip this week: Assertiveness
Conscious Discipline teaches that students will focus on where the focus is given. For example, if we ask a student to "stop hitting", the focus is on hitting. This causes students to focus on the problem, instead of a solution. Conscious Discipline recommends reframing the statement to exclude judgment and to provide clear directions. Here are some examples:
- Name - Verb - Paint (the picture) is one technique for responding to students. It involves three steps. 1. use the child's name, 2. pick the verb of what they are to do (sit, write, etc), and 3. paint the stage (physically show them how).
- Instead of stating "stop hitting" state "Andy, place your hands on your lap" (show them with your hands).
On-Going Reminders
- Please remember to only send emergencies to the nurse's office during breakfast and lunch. Please use a blue note when you do.
- If you send a student to the office for a phone call or any other reason please make sure they have a pass.
- Please make sure you are not sending large printing jobs to the basic printers, please send these to the copiers.
- Lunch counts and attendance need to be entered by 9:20, or Terri will start calling.
Recycling
- K-1 will be Monday and Thursday
- 2-3 will be Tuesday and Friday
- 4-5 plus Mrs. Slover, the office and stage will be Wednesday
