Good afternoon MHS families,

This week I was in touch with the event coordinators of the Xfinity Center and I am pleased to inform all families that we now have a graduation date set for Sunday, June 4th! We are still working out the details regarding the time of the ceremony, but we have now secured a date and families can make plans accordingly for a ceremony on June 4th.

As a reminder, we are holding our healthy decision making parent night on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:30pm. I encourage all families to attend to learn a variety of things regarding teen vaping. Please see the flyer below for more information and other important announcements.

We are excited to announce we now have a graduation date set for Sunday, June 4th at the Xfinity Center.

We will communicate further details regarding time once we finalize plans with the venue.

Mansfield High School will be hosting a Healthy Decision Making parent night on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:30PM in the high school auditorium. Parents with students of any age are encouraged to come to learn how you can support healthy discussions with your child. Details about the event are below.

During MCAS testing MHS will have reverse half-days for any student in grades 9, 11, and 12. The reverse half-days will allow our grade 10 students to take the MCAS and then attend classes without missing any academic time in class. The dates for the reverse half-days are below and can also be found on the district calendar which is also linked at the bottom of the newsletter.

ELA MCAS:

March 28th and 29th

Math MCAS:

May 16th and 17th

Students in grades 9, 11, and 12 will report to school at 10:20am in order to begin classes at 10:30am.

Further information regarding schedule and bus pick-up will be shared in future newsletters.

On Monday January 30th, the MHS Mock Trial team traveled to Walpole High School to compete as part of this year’s regional competition. MHS’s plaintiff was able to secure a victory for the team not only winning the verdict but also the match. The opening statement was performed by Caroline Guravage. The direct examinations were done by Caroline Guravage, Kye DeAngelis and Cooper Ten Eyck with the cross examinations conducted by Reagan Trout, Jack Mackiewicz and Rishi Pendyala. Key witnesses for the plaintiff’s side were played by Sophia Knowles, Wyatt Katon, and Nishant Karri. Haiden Peavey was the time keeper and Jack Mackiewicz delivered the closing statement. The Mock Trial team is now 2-0 with a big match against Newton South High School next week.

In an effort to combat the ongoing challenge of vaping within our school (and others), please take a look at and utilize the various resources provided below to learn more about vaping in order to start/continue the conversation with your child. Making progress in this area is a group effort, and we want to provide support for families at home with these resources.

Mansfield SEPAC Meeting: Screening and Interventions for Reading at All Ages

Location: Jordan Jackson School

Description: The Mansfield SEPAC invites you to this in-person discussion of the science of reading at all ages. SPED teachers from Mansfield's elementary, middle and high schools will discuss how reading skills are taught at these various levels and what kind of interventions are used in our schools to help students with reading challenges. We will also discuss the new Universal Dyslexia Screening program being put into place and what parents should do if they have concerns about their student's ability to read and understand written language.

This past Thursday our school counseling department hosted a college planning night for the class of 2024 families. We had over 150 family members attend the event and many of the panelists from area schools stayed to answer questions at the end of the presentation.
