Jayhawk Family Update

November 21-24

Big picture

Dear Families,

As you may have already heard, school is in tomorrow! We are happy to know that a tentative deal was reached for our CUPE members - a very positive outcome and we look forward to starting our week together, on-site and in the school! We have a busy week ahead!

For students who were given technology on Friday, we kindly ask that all borrowed devices and charging cords that were sent home, be returned for use in the classroom.

This week, in recognition of Bullying Awareness/Prevention week we will have:

1.Positive message music each morning as we enter the building

2. Daily messages on the school announcements

3. Introduce students to the Human Rights Reporting Tool

4. Hold a Safe and Caring Schools Committee Meeting

5. Pink Shirt Day on Thursday

We value kindness and acceptance every week, but this week is certainly a good time to highlight it!

We look forward to our week ahead!

Sincerely,

Amie Domingo & Jean Paquin

Keeping Our Schools Healthy

Although student and staff absences go up and down throughout the school year, the board has experienced a recent uptick in both student and staff absences due to illness at some sites. Limestone continues to work closely with KFL&A Public Health in monitoring student absences related to illness.

Returning to School After Being Sick

A reminder that staff and students should stay home when sick. Anyone who is feeling sick or has any new or worsening symptoms of illness should stay home. After the start of any illness symptom, once they start to improve, staff and students should continue to wear a well-fitted mask for 10 days (starting at the onset of illness) in all public settings (including schools and childcare) and avoid non-essential activities where mask removal is necessary.

Please read the full letter from KFL&A and the letter from Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore. This letter was recently shared by Director Burra on Friday.

This Spring, our Grade 7 & 8 students will have the opportunity to participate in a multi-day trip to Quebec City. In order to subsidize the cost of this trip, brochures will be coming home for a MacMillan's fundraiser.

Indigenous Self-Identification form and process

Shé:kon, Boozhoo. This Fall, the LDSB Indigenous Education Team has worked to improve the Indigenous Self-Identification Form and process. With collaboration and feedback from our Indigenous Education Advisory Committee, the board has created an online version of the form that will be available on the K-12 Indigenous Education Minds Online page and on the LDSB website. This online form is meant to make the Self-Identification process more accessible for students and families, as well as reduce our use of paper across LDSB.

This online form can be filled out on both a computer and mobile device here.

School Day

This new portal will allow us to enhance communications between home and school, create efficiencies for families and school staff, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes. If you have not yet enrolled, please take a moment to register by following the steps outlined below.

1. Go to www.school-day.com, click Log In, then Register. Complete your information, making sure to include a valid email address, as important information and reminders are forwarded from the school to the email you provide.

2. Once you make an account, you need to add a student:

a. Click Add Student

b. In the Secure-Match™ field, enter your Secure-Match™ Key (sent home on the paper information letter) and then click Register.

c. Confirm you are the legal parent or guardian of the student.

Please protect your Secure-Match™ Key as it ensures the security of your School-Day profile. Contact your school if this key is misplaced and a replacement key will be provided. If you require an additional key so that another parent/guardian can add a student to their account, please contact your school administrator to have another Secure-Match™ key issued.

3. If you have multiple students, click Add Student again, and follow the steps outlined above using the second SecureMatch™ key. You will be able to view all of your students from a single account.

If you require assistance, please contact the School-Day Support Team. You can submit a ticket from within the School-Day system, email support.ticket@school-day.com or call 1.855.253.1731 for 24/7 bilingual assistance.

If you have questions about how to use School-Day, please search the articles found in the School-Day Support Centre and Knowledgebase at http://support.school-day.com/en/home.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we implement this new online system.
