The Reading Festival is near!! Keep reading to qualify for this amazing event!
Mark your calendar for Van Buren’s 23rd annual Reading Festival, Friday, February 28th . The theme this year is “Read Everything”. The festivities for the Reading Festival will begin with check-in that evening, followed by lots of exciting activities throughout the school. Some of our activities include…Gaga ball, 9-square, minute to win it games, dance parties, and our main events…Silly Safaris Shows. All students that qualify will be invited to attend. Please read so you can join us for this awesome night!
How does my child qualify to attend?
Your child will need you to assist with keeping track of his/her EXTRA READING done at home. (Any reading beyond school assigned work, including books, magazines, comic books, newspapers, etc.!) This will be tracked on the Reading Log. Reading Log due dates are noted at the bottom of each Reading Log. Students will receive a total of 3 Reading Logs to record reading hours throughout the course of the qualifying reading dates. Continue to read each week to reach the grade level goal by Sunday, February 16th. (If your child forgets to turn in his/her report on the due dates, please have them turn it in ASAP.) NOTE: We encourage family reading time by offering DOUBLE the credit!! Example: If you read together as a family for 15 minutes, you will record 30 MINUTES!

Food Service Information
There are a couple of options for your child's lunch every day:
- Students can pack a lunch.
- Students may purchase a lunch. To fund your student's lunch account, please send cash or a check (made payable to Van Buren Cafeteria) to school. Please put this in an envelope with your child's name, teacher's name, and amount enclosed. You can also use Efunds or Send Money to School to pay online.
Please visit www.plainfield.k12.in.us and click on "Food Services". On that page, you will find a link to the E-Funds for Schools secure payment server. When you get there, you can choose the payment method that is easiest for you.
Eating Lunch with your child
We love to see you come eat with your children! However, PLEASE remember to bring exact change if you are using cash to purchase lunch for yourself or another visitor. We only have a small amount of cash in the register and cannot make change. You may also pay with a check payable to Van Buren Cafeteria. Lunch is $2.50 for students and $3.25 for adults and visitors.
Also, since we have no way of knowing who puts money on the account, you cannot use your child's lunch card balance towards the purchase of your own lunch.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.
Transportation Information
- Bus Riders-Here Comes the Bus app!- Available in three languages (English, Spanish and French), the Here Comes the Bus app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. You need the following two Pieces of Information to create an account:
Your child's student ID number (you use it to log in to Power School or update lunch balances; if you don't know it, your school's secretary can provide it for you.)
ATTENTION CAR RIDER FAMILIES!!
Just a reminder, if you turn right out of the parking lot, please turn right onto 40 so that you don’t hold traffic up behind you and slow down the pick-up process for other parents.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
