Basic Terms & Usage of Technology Systems
The topic of basic terms and usage of technology systems introduces students in utilizing a mouse, keyboard, word processing software, spreadsheets, etc.
This topic relates to Louisiana Digital Literacy Standards by following the required introduction in Kindergarten and reinforcement provided in First Grade.
In my future classroom, this particular section will be critical as technology progresses and the need for students to be properly trained in data processing. I will attempt to expose the students to a variety of new approaches in various software and techniques.
Icons, Windows, and Menus
This section will be used to reinforce the need for students to be familiar with the purpose and use of desktop icons, windows, and applications. The students will also be challenged to develop their skills while creating documents and working within applications.
Keyboarding
This topic aligns to Louisiana Digital Literacy Goals as being introduced in First Grade and reinforced in Second Grade.
In my future classroom, this section will be used to introduce students to the urgency of proper posture and ergonomics because of the long-term effects caused by improper techniques. The correct placement of left and right hands and proper use of the keyboard must be learned at a young age in order to avoid the development of bad practices which will be difficult to correct later in life. Keyboards will be readily available, even though much of what students use are touch-screens because keyboard skills are still necessary.
