LISD TECH Center Student Times
The week of Monday, April 13, 2020
Unfortunately, we will not be meeting in our building for the remainder of the year, but your instructors are working hard this week to develop opportunities that will keep moving you forward. Moving forward for you might be preparing for a certification, preparing to come back as a second year student in your program, preparing a resume to seek job opportunities, or just exploring a career path. Whatever your purpose is, we want you to know that your teachers are working hard this week to create these opportunities and they will be reaching out to you next week to share their plans with you and your family. We will also be mailing a formal communication home later this week that outlines our plan for your continued learning.
You or your families might have questions as well, please feel free to ask your instructor or email me at jenny.heath@lisd.us. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
Counselor Corner Sue Ritchey, LISD TECH Center
“We’re in this together”; that is one thing I can assure you! Right now, your LISD TECH Center teachers, as well as your local district teachers, are working to develop remote educational plans. Many of you have asked what this will look like, if you will earn your certifications, how it will affect your GPA. These are all good questions and answers are coming very soon!
Thank you for completing the “Student Wellness Check In” survey. If you have not yet, please take a few minutes to do so.
From the surveys I have received, there seems to be a common thread. Parents are “making up chores” for you to do, or “on your backs” about “dumb stuff”. This is a stressful time. Typically, the adults have answers, or at least suggestions to your difficulties, but we have never experienced anything like this in our lives either. “We are all in this together”, figuring out daily how to cope. Be patient with each other. This is your chance to put your work habits and LISD TECH Center skills into action!

Here is your challenge for the week:
· Contribute to your household in meaningful ways. Develop clear, daily expectations. Help with meal prep and household cleaning. Plan fun activities for the family to do together. Develop a schedule that you share with your family. This will alleviate some of that “nagging”! Take charge and help out! Remember, keeping conflict minimal, amid tight quarters, is a meaningful contribution.
· Manage your schoolwork and responsibilities on your own. Let your parent know what schoolwork you have to do and about how much time that is going to take. Schedule that time into your household responsibilities. Communication is key.
· Contribute to your community. Rake leaves and clean flowerbeds at the neighbor’s house. Decorate your sidewalk with inspiring drawings. Bake and deliver treats to your grandparents/elderly friends (carefully packaged). Clean out linen closets and donate old towels, sheets, blankets to the animal shelters. Pick up trash on the roadside. Anything that you can do to benefit others will make you feel good, and fill your resume!
