CAMPO CONNECTION Newsletter
Edition 10: October 8, 2021
Hello Parents and Students,
Yes, there is school next week on Monday. We do not have Columbus Day as one of our holidays. Our next day off of school is November 11-12 for Veteran's day.
Hopefully all of you looked inside the Red Wednesday Folder and discussed your child's progress report. Do you know their reading and math levels? Do you know the goal for November? If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your teacher.
Teachers are working on small group reading instruction to re-teach specific standards that your child has not mastered over the past year. We have a reading intervention program with Ms. Reed and Ms. Natalia to support grades 1-4 at this time. There is no secret to what really improves reading. The strategy is to read every day. Parents or older siblings can read to younger kids. Ask who, what, where, when, and how questions. Ask students to retell or summarize the story. These questioning techniques practiced at home will be very helpful to improve reading levels.
Today we had a popcorn party for 70 students who had their name drawn from the Character Card box. Congratulation! Shout out to Ms. Shannon, Ms. Leah, and Ms. Veronica who helped make the popcorn. Kids enjoyed it.
Below are some details details and pictures that are important to view. Thank you, and have a great weekend.

Thank you for donating candy. Donations are still welcome and needed.
Costume Contest.
Student do not wear their costumes to school on the 22nd.
Students wear their costumes to the Trunk or Treat party at 5:00. If students want to enter the contest, they will have their picture taken. Then, a slide show will be created, and our Student Council will vote on different categories.
On Friday, 29th, everyone wears their costumes to school to celebrate Halloween. The winners of the contest will be announced on the 29th.
Parents - Be Aware of Tik Tok
I am contacting you again regarding the recent TikTok "Devious Licks Challenge" where individuals were encouraging others to steal or damage school property. It has apparently returned with a more aggressive and potentially serious challenge. The newest challenge is called "Slap a Teacher challenge".
I don't have to tell you how absolutely ridiculous this challenge is and how serious the consequence will be for any student who attempts this. However, I want to make sure I am as transparent as possible with all of you, in order to help facilitate conversations at home. Slapping, in this instance, includes not only slaps in the face, but also hitting, kicking, or violence of any kind on any part of an adult's body and will be strictly prohibited. Any student who participates in this challenge at any level will receive an automatic five day suspension, an administrative review that may result in expulsion, and possible involvement from law enforcement.
Staff and students alike are meant to attend school in a safe, comfortable environment on a daily basis. Whether or not you allow your student to have social media, they will likely hear about this viral trend. This "challenge" presents an opportunity to speak with your children about appropriate use of technology and being socially responsible and kind. We ask that you please speak with your student and remind them that these " challenges" are criminal behavior, not an innocent prank.
Let's work together to put a stop to this now. We appreciate your support to keep our campuses safe by talking to your child about the adverse effects of peer pressure sometimes found on social media platforms. We are asking for the entire community to partner with us to eliminate this behavior on our campuses. If you have any information regarding these incidents or questions about this matter, please contact us as soon as possible.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools, students, and staff members safe. We look forward to your continued partnership.
