- Article: 8 Ideas to Make the End of the Year Race Better
Teacher Highlight: Brandon McCormick
- How long have you been teaching? This is my 11th year teaching, 2nd year at Esperanza.
- Where/what grades have you taught? 3 years at Oakville 4th grade, 3 years at Evergreen 4th grade, 3 years at Lexington Park and now ending my 2nd year at Esperanza (so if the pattern holds, I will be saying "goodbye" after next year, lol)
- What is your favorite thing about being an English teacher? In truth, it is the ability to analyze a character's motivations and choices and look at the variety of ways those choices were made. I very much look at ELA like movies, where we must be open to asking questions that may not have an answer right away, but those questions plant the seed of curiosity that lead to future discoveries.
- What is your favorite teaching/learning/inspirational quote? "The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work" Mark Twain
- Is there anything else you'd like to share with your English family? Well, my top 3 loves currently are my daughter (I know surprise there), Penguin hockey, and Crossfit!
Pearson First Read
Kelsey Mackin made this based on the strategy from Pearson. She had tried to print from the online textbook, but it wasn't formatted correctly, so she created this one. Feel free to try it out with your students before the end of the year!

Please make sure your PLC writes in the books that align with the Pearson units before the end of the day on Wednesday. Kayla and I will be bringing this list to our ELT meeting at 330 on May 17th.
