Christopher Columbus Monument

  • Located in Byrd Park in Richmond

  • Made by Ferruccio Legnaioli on December 9, 1927

  • A 6 foot high bronze figure of Columbus on an 8 foot pedestal. There is also a stack of books behind him which symbolizes knowledge that he brought to our country. It was made to honor Columbus and it symbolizes Italian-American pride.

  • It tells about how Italian immigrants were glad to come to our country. They wanted to show that an explorer from their country was important and should be displayed in a prominent place in Richmond.
