By Emma Sameth
- Located in Byrd Park in Richmond
- Made by Ferruccio Legnaioli on December 9, 1927
A 6 foot high bronze figure of Columbus on an 8 foot pedestal. There is also a stack of books behind him which symbolizes knowledge that he brought to our country. It was made to honor Columbus and it symbolizes Italian-American pride.
It tells about how Italian immigrants were glad to come to our country. They wanted to show that an explorer from their country was important and should be displayed in a prominent place in Richmond.
