This week we have no school for staff and students on Monday and teacher professional development on Tuesday. There is no school for students on Tuesday. School will start at 8:30 this Thursday. We have NO late start this week and our K-5 PTA meeting Thursday evening. Doors open at 6:00PM and the PTA meeting will start at 6:30PM. We also have our Black History Presentation on Friday.

A Message from Our Counselor:
Good Morning LES, Parents & Guardians,
I hope this email finds our families well. As we have all heard, on Wednesday, our community suffered an unimaginable tragedy at an event that was supposed to be filled with celebration and joy. I hope that any of our families that were in attendance were not in harm’s way.
As we have this extended break from school, I wanted to give families a few resources and tips that you can use at home to help your children process this trauma. Even if your family did not have first-hand experience, you and your children can still be effected by these events. Below are some good tips from The Children’s Place. The Children’s Place is a specialized trauma treatment center in Kansas City. You may visit their website for more ideas or to take advantage of their counseling center. www.childrensplacekc.org
1. Turn off the TV. – children do not need to be exposed to the details of the event.
2. Movement and activity are the most healing acts for children. Do this with your child to provide them with a sense of security and connection.
3. Answer questions they ask but refrain from over explaining. Correct the inaccuracies they may be sharing and remember it’s ok to say “I don’t know”.
4. Listen more, talk less. Give your child the space and opportunity to share their thoughts, concerns, and fears.
5. Acknowledge their feelings and assure them that they are now safe, and you will do what you can to protect them.
As always, you may reach out to me if you believe your child needs a little extra support to work through these events. Attached, you will find a list of community resources that extend to the Greater Kansas City area, ideas on activities to promote resilience in your child as well as a list of coping skills for trauma.
Take Care,
