read a thon prize day

Some of the classes that earned the movie and popcorn party were treated to their prize earlier this week. There were a couple classes that were quarantined and unable to participate; their party will be rescheduled. Students who earned dress down passes for raising $100 should have received their dress down pass on Monday.

We look forward to having our teachers dress up and doing our raffle in the very near future. We will announce that date as soon as possible.

mass this weekend

Special thanks to Mariano, Reed, and Guillermo for serving as lectors and for Isabella for being the psalmist at mass this past weekend. Thanks to all of the students who attended mass in school uniform and to those who were altar servers. You all represented our school very well.

thanksgiving food drive

Catholic Charities is always so grateful for our food donations for their pantry. So many of our students routinely bring food items to mass on Fridays. Our donations help sustain food for those families that they serve. We know that the holidays are always a challenging time for people and there is more of a demand on Catholic Charities. As we've done in the past, we are requesting specific items between now and Thanksgiving. We will keep track of the number of items each class donates. There will be prizes for the class that brings in the most items.

conferences

All parents of students in kindergarten through grade 8 are invited to attend a virtual conference with their child's teacher. Conferences are being scheduled for October 7th and 8th. Teachers will be sending out links to schedule conferences in a couple weeks. While our teachers are always available to schedule conferences with parents, these annual Fall Conferences provide all parents an opportunity to speak briefly about their child's progress already this year. Make plans to join your child's teacher on October 7 and 8.

checking grades

Parents are reminded of our portal that allows you to monitor your student's grades throughout the year. This is especially important for parents of students in grades 3-8, as they receive numeric grades for all subjects. Parents are strongly encouraged to check grades a minimum of a couple times a week. The directions for accessing the grades can be found below.

Fingerprints

We are beginning to allow limited volunteers on campus in supportive capacities. Please keep in mind, that if you intend to volunteer, you must have special fingerprint clearance through the Diocese of Orlando. Fingerprint clearance could take several weeks. Please take a look at the directions below and make arrangements for your fingerprints if you are interested.

Amazon Smile

When you're shopping on Amazon, you can support St. Joseph Catholic School at the same time by using this link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/20-5452342. Since we've started participating in the Amazon Smiles program this year, we've received over $800 from the 103 people that support us using Amazon Smiles!

face masks

SJCS face masks have arrived and are available in the school office for $10 each. We have adult and child sized face masks. Families are welcome to send in payment with a note indicating which size you prefer or stop by the school office to make a purchase. Supply is limited. Get your SJCS face mask today.

covid reminders

Two Tips regarding COVID:

  • Remember that persons who have had COVID will not have to quarantine for 90 days. Since we cannot accept home tests, if your child tests positive on a home test, please consider getting an official test. Send official test results to the school office for us to have on file. Once we have positive test results on file, your child will not have to quarantine for 90 days.
  • Once classes are quarantined, there is an opportunity for students to test out of quarantine and return to class before the full 10 days. Many of our families are finding great success at the Gil Jones Center (3425 US 17 N Winter Haven). This is a free rapid test. Parents are receiving results in less than an hour. They are open 7 days a week from 8am until 6pm.

birthday treats for the class

Please remember that all snacks/birthday treats that students are sharing with the class MUST be individually wrapped by the manufacturer. We cannot accept packs of cupcakes purchased from Publix that have to be handled in distributing to the students. Publix will individually wrap cupcakes for you, for an additional charge. We strongly recommend Little Debbie snacks that come individually wrapped in the box. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter as we continue to strive to keep our community healthy.

absences

When a student is absent from school, there must be contact between the family and the school office. There are two ways that families can report an absence to the school office:

  • Families are asked to email the school at attendance@stjosephwhschool.org when a child is absent.
  • Families can call the school office at 293-3311 and leave a message on the special voicemail dedicated to absences. Follow the prompts after calling the school office.

If we don't hear from you by 9am, you can expect to receive a phone call from the school office. *Please note that if the office is aware that your child has been quarantined due to COVID, you do not need to contact the office.

First Communion Information

Registration is open for those children seeking 1st Communion this year at St. Joseph Church.

  • Church registration and a baptism certificate are required.

St. Joseph Prayer

O Blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of Mary, the virgin Mother of God, I choose you this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor you all the days of my life. Therefore, I humbly ask you to receive me as your client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen.
