LEVELING UP IN 2020
Howdy Hounds!
It was so fun to see our students participate in Pajama Day on Friday based on the results of the K-2 Election...even though I lost by a VERY narrow margin! :) If you have a student in kinder-second grade, I hope they shared their voting experience with you.
We have several happening at Huggins this week. First of all, we are looking forward to celebrating Veteran's Day on Wednesday, November 11th. Students are welcome to wear red, white, and blue as we take time to honor the brave men and women of our armed forces. Please remember that all Veteran's Day forms are due Monday for our Wall of Honor.
It is also spirit night at Freddy's on Tuesday, November 10th. 15% of proceed will be donated back to the school. Drive-thru, take-out, and curbside will count towards the fundraiser...don't forget to tell them you are representing Huggins Elementary when placing your order!
We have made a few adjustments to our afternoon car rider dismissal in an effort to expedite the process. Fortunately, we have been able to speed up dismissal by over 15 minutes. Keeping this in mind, please remember that we begin dismissal at 2:55. If you pull up after the car rider line has finished, please park and come in with your car rider tag to check your child out. With the changes we have made, we have been finishing the car rider line by 3:15pm.
Please note that picture retakes are scheduled for next Tuesday, November 17th. Retakes are for any student that has newly enrolled at Huggins and missed picture day, any student returning their package for any reason and wanting to retake their picture (they must return their original package to the photographer in order to receive full credit for their package), any student that was absent on the original picture day, any student that did not purchase on picture day that has payment/online receipt for purchase on retake day, and any student that was virtual on the original picture day and did not get photographed.
This week our counselors sent information home regarding the Huggins Annual Angel Tree Tradition. Please remember that forms are due Monday. You can also email Ms. Evans or Ms. Reddy directly if you would like to make a nomination.
Here's to a fantastic week!
Sincerely,
Bethany Cunningham

Character Building at Home
How Parents Can Promote RESPONSIBILITY:
· Give your youngsters tasks at home to accomplish.
· Focus on effort and a positive attitude rather than overemphasizing outcome.
· Applaud courageous social behaviors when your child avoids temptations.
· Insist that they take ownership for their own mistakes.
· Develop high expectations and link consequences to poor choices.

Smart Tag Parent Portal (repeat)
The Parent Portal for SMART Tag was opened on Monday, September 21ST. Parents can now register and view their child’s ridership information via the Parent Portal. Parents may see when and where their child got on and off the bus via a webpage on their computer or smart device. They may also receive notifications via text that the bus will soon be at their morning stop. Additional information can be found by clicking here. The link provides detailed steps, including videos, on how parents can get registered.

Face Coverings (Repeat)
Students are required to bring two dress code approved masks/face coverings daily. One will be worn, and one additional mask/face covering will be brought in a sealed/ziploc bag. Labeling of the masks with a student name is suggested.
Mask questions we have received:
Can my child wear a face shield? Full-face shields may be used in place of a mask to protect eyes, nose, and mouth whenever a mask is not feasible or whenever the education context may benefit from the ability to see an individual’s full face.
Can my child wear a neck gaiter/buff? Yes, these are also approved.
Does the mask have to be a Huggins uniform color? No. Masks may be any color or design. However, no inappropriate language or images will be allowed.
***Please note that BSN Sports has graciously donated Huggins Hounds lanyards that will be given to students on the first day of school. Students will be able to use these lanyard to attach their masks so that they do not get lost.
