The Yakima School District is proud to announce the hiring of Jamie Johnson as Principal of Early Learning.
Jamie Johnson joined the Yakima School District in July 2021. This is her 15th year in education. She has served many roles in education, starting out as a paraeducator and working through the system.
Jamie attended Central Washington University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She then worked as a paraeducator at an alternative middle school in the Ellensburg School District. She went on to teach 6th and 7th grade on the Yakama Reservation before going to teach in the Sunnyside School District at Pioneer Elementary School.
In 2011, Jamie earned her Master of Arts in Multicultural Education. In 2017, Jamie earned National Board Certification in Early Childhood and then went on to complete her administrative credentials in 2019. In 2019, Jamie moved to the Grandview School District and served as a Vice Principal for 2 years, mainly overseeing Special Education and PreSchool. In 2020, she started the Doctor of Educational Leadership program at Gonzaga University with a concentration in Childhood Trauma and Behavior.
Jamie currently serves as the Interim Principal of Early Learning for the Yakima School District. She has focused on building strong relationships with students, staff, and the community. She believes in transparent and open communication with all stakeholders. She strives to create an environment for our youngest students to grow and thrive through active play, Teaching Strategies Gold standards, and developmentally appropriate goals.
Jamie has been a resident of the Yakima Valley for 16 years. She lives with her husband and
their three kids; two daughters and a son. She is a book nerd who can often be found reading
or researching numerous different topics. Jamie is incredibly excited to continue to lead the Early Learning program and see all the growth the program will make in the next few
years.
