Drop Everything and Read Day

Monday, April 12th 2021 at 12am

92-1300 Panana Street

Kapolei, HI

Every year on Beverly Cleary's birthday, families are encouraged to put aside all distractions and spend time enjoying books together. Browse our collection of reading and writing activity sheets, ideas on how to host a D.E.A.R. event, reading tips, and information about silent reading.

Here are some Teacher Resources to help you Celebrate D.E.A.R.

The concept of "Drop Everything and Read" is referenced in the second chapter of Ramona Quimby, Age 8, and Ramona is the campaign spokesperson. The aim of this nationwide initiative is to encourage families to designate a special time to "drop everything and read" at home. So, on April 12, families will be encouraged to take at least 30 minutes to put aside all distractions and enjoy books together.
