Volunteer Opportunity

Join Merryhill Midtown 5th graders to help stop pollution in the American River! Pollution is destroying our natural wildlife and making the river an unsafe place. We would love for you to volunteer to help us clean our beloved American River!

American River Clean-up

Sunday, May 17th, 10am-2pm

Howe Avenue Bridge and La Riviera Dr. Sacramento, CA 95815

Supplies will be provided by the American River Parkway Foundation to facilitate our clean-up.

Tips for Preventing Water Pollution

  • Use environmentally friendly products, such as dish soap, washing detergent, and other cleaning products.
  • Try to limit your use of pesticides.
  • Try to use biodegradable materials instead of plastics and other environmentally unsafe materials.
  • Pick up trash and don't litter.
  • Dispose of chemicals properly. Do not dump chemicals down the sink or toilet!
  • Do not dispose of waste (solid or liquid) down storm drains.
  • Use reusable bags as much as possible.
  • Eat sustainable meat as much as possible.
  • Plant trees and flowers around your home to help prevent chemicals from draining into the water.
  • Keep vehicles in good working order.
