Message from the new Murphy Middle School Athletic Director- Mark Woodyard
As many of you may already know, Coach Travis Ragsdale accepted the Assistant Principal position at Renner Middle School. We are all extremely happy for this great opportunity in his life, but we are also saddened by his departure from Murphy. Coach Ragsdale has left a very rich tradition on what it means to be a Murphy Maverick and has had a profound impact on many of the students that have come through Murphy. I am honored and excited to step in as the Athletic Director at Murphy Middle School. I look to continue to build upon the great traditions that we already have in place at Murphy as well as bring some fresh ideas in the years to come.
Many of you probably already know me, as I have been a 6th grade Math teacher and Coach at Murphy for the last 4 years. I am a product of the Richardson Independent School District; attending Big Springs Elementary, Apollo Junior High, and graduating from Berkner High School in 2006. I served my country for 6 years as an Infantryman, deploying to Iraq in 2007 and Afghanistan in 2009. My time in the military gave me many of the leadership qualities that I plan to bring to the Athletic Department I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with my Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2014. I have been married to my amazing wife Mayli for 10 years and we have 2 energetic boys, Mason (6) and Maddox (3), that love to keep us on our toes. You will probably see them at many of our sporting events this year.
As the Athletic Director there are 4 key components that I will focus on throughout the Department: Family, Academics, Structure, and Fundamentals. FAMILY - I want all our student-athletes to feel like this is a family and they can rely on any of us. ACADEMICS - I am big on the athletes also understanding that they are students first and athletes second. STRUCTURE - The foundation to being successful in this program is making sure that they are in the right place, at the right time, and in the right uniform.
FUNDAMENTALS - I want to set them up for success as an athlete by making sure that we are vertically aligned with the high school and senior high, so that when they do move up to the next level they will already know the basics.
I look forward to meeting many of you over the next few weeks as we prepare to get another great year underway at Murphy Middle School.

PE & Athletics Information
You can now purchase your PE or football uniforms on-line atwww.shopmurphymavs.com. All orders will be delivered to the students at school once they arrive.
7th and 8th grade volleyball tryouts will start on the first day of school from 3:30-5:00. All players interested in tryouts must have their physicals and medical history form turned in by the first day of school. Also you must fill out all of the Rank One paperwork on line. Instructions are attached. Students that do not have their paperwork turned in are not eligible to try out. This is a state law and no exceptions will be made. Try outs will not be made up for late paperwork.
If your student is playing football all paperwork must be turned in by the first day of school. Any 8th grader that has missing paperwork on the first day of school will not be eligible to play in the first game due to state law on required practices before a game.
If your student is planning on trying out for any sport this year I would recommend going ahead and filling out all of the Rank One paperwork now. Physicals for basketball season are not due until the end of October. Physicals for track and cross country are not due until mid February.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
I hope you have had a great summer. We utilize a system called Rank One which allows you to complete required paperwork forms electronically online. All forms are available on Rank One. Two forms will need to be turned into the coaches. Those two forms are the physical examination form and the medical history form. All other forms can be completed online.
Please register online at:
https://planoisd.rankonesport.com. You will need your child’s school identification number to register. This system will allow us to have better oversight on all required athletic paperwork. It will also be much more efficient for the coaches and easier for the parents and guardians.
Thank you for your support of athletics. I hope your son or daughter has a great year.
