GISH GLIMPSE
I Behave As Though This Is The Day I Will Be Remembered For.
Principal's Message - MAY 2021
Happy Spring… Warmer weather has finally arrived, albeit a bit inconsistent! Lawn work is getting done and we’re starting to emerge from winter hibernation. Unfortunately, COVID has not ended yet… Gish staff appreciate and recognize everyone’s efforts in continuing to make learning a priority as we work through this Pandemic. Parents are reminded to please pay their fees.
Registration has nearly concluded for the 2021-22 school year. Due to the popularity of our outstanding programs, Elmer S. Gish School once again will have closed boundaries, except for Global students in our own attendance areas. If you have not re-registered for next year, please contact the office as soon as possible! 780-459-7766.
Classroom & Teacher Requests: PLEASE respect Gish teachers’ professionalism in determining the optimal class placement for your child(ren) next year. We ask that you NOT make specific requests. We consider many factors including work habits, gender, personalities, positive friendships, academic ability, character qualities, etc. and meet several times to re-check our decisions. If you have educational reasons to support a specific placement, please share details in a letter to Principal Strembitsky by May 14. We will not be making changes to class lists in August and September.
Once again, thank you for your tremendous support and assistance as we overcome our challenges. We certainly look forward to returning to “the old normal” in terms of schooling for next year.
Update on COVID-19 and the possibility of moving to online learning
As several boards/schools around our school division move to online learning for the next few weeks, our division has received questions about whether we will be doing likewise, either across the division or on a school-by-school basis. Our division staff continue to monitor the situation by the hour and right now, none of our schools meets the criteria required by the government to move online (such as a teacher/substitute shortage or a significant number of students and staff isolating).
However, things can change very quickly and parents and families need to be ready for a possible move to online learning with very little notice. We are constantly monitoring and any decisions are made based on the best balance of educational and health & safety needs.
Stay safe, St. Albert, and please remember that following the rules outside of school hours will help us keep our schools open and operational. Online learning is a serious hardship for many families and we want to keep our students in school safely! Please also remember to go through the daily screening checklist with your children and do not send them to school or on the bus if they are unwell.
Thank you for your continued support as we move towards the end of this school year.
