The Paw Print
Burke County Public Schools Newsletter
September 8, 2022
Welcome back to everyone's favorite newsletter, the Paw Print! Your Paw Print Pals hope that you are all well rested after the three-day Labor Day Weekend. Labor Day was originally designed to honor hard-working people with a day of rest, but Labor Day should not be the only day of the year you relax!
This weekend's Labor Day should be used as an inspiration to get the proper amount of rest EVERY DAY! Much like your phone, you can not be the best version of yourself if you are always only 10% charged. As always, Stay #BearBuilt!
The Paw Print is released on the 2nd and 4th weeks of every month. The newsletter features sports updates, events in the community, and fun activities for the family... so stay tuned!

Electrifying Experience!
The Burke County Bears will reach new heights this fall! Planters EMC partnered with Jefferson Energy to set poles for an upcoming outdoor climbing lab for students in Mr. Mark Flowers' Energy and Power class at Burke County High School. This outdoor classroom will be the first of its kind in the CSRA to provide the opportunity for high school students to receive hands-on experience in electrical line work. We can't wait to see their progress!
Special thanks to Mr. Flowers, CTAE Director Sean Middleton, PEMC Safety Coordinator Ross Zittrouer, PEMC Linemen Tyler Becton and Davis Vasilatos, and JEC Linemen Danny Hobbs and Vinson Miller for their work on this special project.

Did You Miss the Call?
Unfortunately, some phones may send this number into a spam folder which leaves you to miss out on all of the news and updates sent by the school.
There is a way to prevent that from happening! Simply add 855-977-0602 to your contacts and you will receive all of the informational updates we send out!
If you haven't received anything from this number, you may have to update your contact information. You can make sure we have the correct contact information by checking with your school office staff, parent coordinator, or student information specialist.
Parents & Guardians Have Homework Too!
The online process replaces the paper forms sent home at the beginning of each school year used to update student information.
We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to complete their student's information update. Updating your current contact information is imperative for receiving report cards and other important messages.
Burke County families will access the online student information update through their existing Power School Parent Portal account by following these simple steps:
1. Check your email, including the junk or spam folders, for an email from noreplyregistration@powerschool.com. This email
contains your student’s unique verification passcode, called a “SnapCode.”
*If you are a parent/guardian of multiple returning students, you received a separate email for each student.
2. Review the emailed directions on completing the online verification form.
3. Follow the link to log into PowerSchool using the provided “Snapcode.”

Word of the Day
The Word of the Day is Panache (pronounced: puh-nahsh)! Panache is a noun that is used to describe someone or something that has confidence, energy, spirit and style.
The actors of the play performed every scene with such confidence and panache, so I would definitely be willing to watch the show again!
As mentioned in the beginning of the Paw Print, it's pretty hard to muster up any panache when you're sleepy! So get some rest!
We challenge you all to use this word as many times as you can this week, extra points if you use it in the right context, EVEN MORE points if you have to explain to somebody what it means!
National Day Calendar
September 8 commemorates National School Picture Day, National Ampersand Day and National Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses Day.
Because Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses are literally superheroes, Burke County Families can celebrate these national holidays by fully dedicating this national holiday to the nurses (forget Ampersands and School Pictures).
If you know a nurse, be sure to tell them thank you for all that they do! These ladies and gentlemen definitely have some panache!
Send a Free Card and Message to a St. Jude's Patient
To take a little bit of weight off the shoulders of these strong nurses, take a minute out of your day to write some letters to St. Jude's patients. They appreciate all kind and encouraging words. :)
The link to send these messages can be accessed by clicking the image on the left and the link below. St. Jude receives messages any day and any time, so whenever you want to get in an act of kindness, this is the place to do so.
