A Letter from Mr. Hershey

Dear Parent or Guardian,

Can you believe that it is already December? It seems like the school year just started a few weeks ago. We have so much to be proud of the progress that are students and staff have made since the beginning of the year. One thing that the month of December naturally causes us to reflect on is our goals that we put into place at the beginning of the school year. The focus that we had this year as a staff is to Cultivate What Matters. We put focus on being cultivating our students' growth, relationships, and in best instructional practices. Although we have much work to do, we are certainly proud of all the growth that we have seen so far and are looking forward to the year 2019.

Our Mindset of the Month is "Attitude of Gratitude" for December. I can't thank you enough for being as generous as you have been as we have participated in food drives and toy drives in support of those that need assistance. The Shiloh Point community truly is making a difference. I am so proud to call myself a Shiloh Shark!

Please enjoy the two weeks off during our holiday season. I hope you make many great memories with your family. If there is anything that we can do to support your family, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you again for all of your continued support. We couldn't do what we do without you as a partner to support your child's education.

Happy Holidays,

Derrick Hershey

The 7 Mindsets - Attitude of Gratitude

The Attitude of Gratitude mindset teaches us the importance of seeking the positives from every experience and being thankful for all that we have. Through this mindset, we learn that we can use the positives or the negatives of our lives as the foundation on which to build. Choose the positives, and we are on our way toward extraordinary success; choose the negatives, and we embark on path toward disappointment, resentment, and suffering. In these lessons, we guide students to focus on all the things they have, leaving no time to be distracted by what they don’t

Make sure to ask your student about what "Attitude of Gratitude" means. For more information, please click here. You will find great resources on this link that will support you as a parent.

Volunteer to Read

Please consider volunteering to read to Shiloh Point's kindergarten and 1st grade students. We are looking for volunteers to sign up for a 30 minute time slot to read to a small group of students. We will have books available for you to read or you can bring your own favorites to share. Please note that this is not an opportunity to read to your own child, but to children chosen by the teacher. If you would like to read specifically in your own child's classroom, please reach out to your child's teacher directly for volunteer opportunities.

Partners in Education

The Place of Forsyth

The Place of Forsyth County was founded in 1975 by four Dominican Nuns. The sisters offered the residents assistance with financial needs, clothing, food and even tutoring children. Throughout our 40 years, we have been the catalyst for several agencies that had their beginnings as programs at The Place. Today we are serving the community with financial emergency assistance, clothing, food and many additional support services. In August 2015 we started a workforce development initiative in conjunction with several local agencies to help the under employed and unemployed prepare for and secure jobs. We also embraced an 8 year old service, Focus on Forsyth, which helps needy households through referrals from schools and senior center. Through our services to the community we are changing lives in Forsyth County Georgia.
