Mrs. Dine's Kindergarten News

Thank you for your kindness!

Many of you already know my husband and I moved over the 2 weeks off in December and I am still unpacking! So many boxes! I'm not sure how I accumulated everything but I don't want to move again. Last Saturday I opened the box with all of the envelopes from the tree you gave me for Christmas on the last day of school and the list of other gifts. Once again I was reminded how thoughtful, kind, and generous you were and I am so very grateful to all of you. Thank-you so very much! We have lots of "projects" at the new house since it was built in 1968 but we are so excited to have 6 1\2 acres for gardening, our chickens, and plenty of space for our growing family to gather.

Language Arts

We have begun Unit 6, It's Our Town. We are learning about different types of communities and learning about our own Smoky Row and Carmel communities. Our sight words this week are he, she, and put. We have now introduced 48 of the 84 high frequency/sight words. Please continue to help your child review these so they can read them without sounding them out. In our phonics studies in addition to all of the beginning consonant and vowel sounds we have also worked on sh, th, wh, th(both sounds), ch, and ing. Just a reminder that when reading books come home the children are to read them to themselves and at least 2 other people. They should return them to school in the bag with their name the next day so they will have them for class. Thanks for your help. I have re-evaluated all the children for reading and some have moved to a new reading group so you may notice a difference.

Makerspace

Smoky Row had the opportunity to try out a Makerspace cart from the district. After we read the book, The Most Magnificent Thing the children were able to use the supplies on the cart to create something. Check out some of their creations in the pictures below.

Upcoming February Events

Class Valentines

We will be celebrating Valentines Day on Friday, February 12th. The children are making their valentine bags this week and they will be ready for valentines next week. Please have your child bring a valentine for each student in the class. We will open them during the party on the 12th. Due to food allergies the children will not be able to pass out candy with their valentines. They may either buy or make their valentines and may begin bringing them to school on next Monday, February 8th. A class list has been e-mailed to you so you can include everyone.
