Principal's Message
Parent-Teacher Conferences begin on Monday and last through November 15th. These meetings offer an important time for you to talk one-on-one about your child's progress. Here are some suggestions to make the most of your Parent-Teacher Conference:
Before the conference
- Ask your child if there is anything that he wants you to talk about with his teacher.
- Make a list of topics that you want to talk about with the teacher.
- Prepare a list of questions such as:
- 1. What are my child's strongest and weakest subjects?
2. Does my child participate in class?
3. What can I do at home to help?
During the conference
- Be on time for the meeting.
- End the meeting on time. Other parents will probably have a conference after yours.
- Relax and be yourself.
- Ask the most important questions first.
- Ask for explanations of anything you don't understand
- Ask your child's teacher for ways that you can help your child at home.
After the conference
- Talk about the conference with your child.
- Tell your child about any plans you and the teacher created.
- Keep in touch with the teacher during the school year.
Don't Forget
Students in grades 1-5 are dismissed at 1:15 every day between
November 5-15 for Parent-Teacher Conferences.

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL NEEDS YOU!
Safe Routes to School needs YOU! Please consider volunteering to help encourage our children to walk/bike/roll to school on specific days. This is a great opportunity to make a huge impact on our community!
SR2S is a program encouraging children to be active by walking, biking, or scootering to school. Students who walk/bike/scooter to school on a specified day receive raffle tickets and are eligible to win prizes and be featured in the school Newsletter. We need Parent Volunteers to help implement a successful program at Alta Vista Elementary.

HEALTH OFFICE REMINDERS
- If your child has a fever of 100.0° or above, they may return to school when they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol, Motrin or Advil. Also, if your child has vomited or has had diarrhea, they may return to school 24 hours after the last occurrence. They need the time to recover so they can be ready for a full day of learning when they return.
- Please call the office to let us know when your child is diagnosed with a communicable disease. Strep throat, pink eye, chicken pox, lice, ringworm are all examples of a communicable disease.
- If your child has an injury that requires a splint, brace, cast or crutches, please bring a note from their doctor when they return to school letting us know how long they will wear/use the support and any activity restriction they may need. Thank you.
HALLOWEEN
It was wonderful to see so many people attend this year's Halloween Parade. I'm sure you would agree that there were many, many creative ideas on display! Thank you for joining in our fun.
