February 2018
A Note From Our Principal
Dear CE Families,
It’s mid-January and we’ve used our second Snow Day. As a kid and teacher, I would love the anticipation of waking up knowing there was no school and having the added time to do just about anything. For some, that would mean sleeping in, catching up on unfinished business, or just relaxing with a good book. For me, the anticipation would quickly change to anxiety. In my younger years, I would not be able to see my friends, the roads would be too dangerous for my parents to drive and the day would be cancelled with no hope of being rescheduled. Today, that anxiety still exists. Meetings need to be rescheduled, the roads are still too dangerous to travel and staying home just creates new projects for my to-do list or doing nothing at all leaves me feeling wasteful. Anxiety has been a hot topic in our schools. How do you cope with anxiety within your family, work life and yourself? Old man winter is not holding back this year so take time to deal with your anxiety by trying these tips:
- eating well-balanced meals
- taking deep breaths
- getting enough sleep
- volunteering
- exercising
- my favorite... maintaining a positive attitude!
~ Mrs. K. Miller
~~~~ Important Reminders for Parents ~~~~
A.C.E. -- We Need Volunteers!!
A.C.E. (After Class Enrichment) Program begins in March but volunteers are needed to host the program(s). In years past we have offered crochet class, arts and crafts, board games, fun with electricity, mad science lab, yearbook and book club to name a few. Please consider running an after school class to enrich the lives of our students. If you are interested in running a class, or for more information, please email our PTO President, Mrs. Lackie (lackiee@cacsd.org).
School Times for Students & Parents
Please review our Arrival & Dismissal Procedures in the 2017-2018 Student-Parent Handbook:
**Students are expected to be in their classroom by 9:00 a.m. and ready for instruction.
We must also have written permission from you if your child is to ride home on a different bus or go to someone else’s house after school.
If you must phone the school to change your child’s dismissal plan, please do so before 2:00 p.m. We will not change your child’s dismissal procedures unless we hear from you!
ALL DISMISSAL CHANGES MUST BE CONFIRMED WITH THE MAIN OFFICE. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM NOTIFYING THE CLASSROOM TEACHER VIA EMAIL OR SOCIAL MEDIA.
Is your child absent/arriving late?
Please call Mrs. Lackie @ 731-1775 (or the Main Office @ 731-1771) if your child will be absent/arriving late to school. Please refer to our District Attendance Policy at https://www.cacsd.org/, under Parent Resources > Parent Documents > Attendance Policy Summary.
New York State Law requires written documentation to verify their absence upon their return. (Please include your child’s name, teacher’s name, and the reason for their absence on the note). Excessive Absences/Tardies will not be tolerated.
Jump Rope For Heart
Our Jump Rope for Heart Kick-Off Assembly will be on Friday, February 9th. Throughout the week of February 12th-15th, in the students' regular Physical Education classes, students will learn jump rope skills, how their heart works and that raising money for the American Heart Association helps kids with special hearts. Having fun, staying healthy and making a difference in the lives of others is the goal.
Funds from this event support cardiovascular research and educational programs. Final date for bringing in donation envelopes is Monday, February 27th.
Donation envelopes and information on how to donate online will be sent home with those students who may be interested prior to the event. Thank you for your support!
Is Your Child Too Sick for School?
We have been experiencing a great deal of illness across the district since the first of the year. The following guidelines are to assist you with deciding what is best for your child:
