Glenn Nøstdahl - Leadership Skills
Glenn Nøstdahl is the Financial Strategy Manager at Entecho and the former Managing Director of Dolphin Group ASA, a listed IT company based in Norway. In 2009 he became the youngest director of a listed company in Norway.
He is known as a man who excels at leadership, and shares the traits that mark many of the great business leaders of this or any other era. He is results-oriented and knows that at the end of the day, results are the only thing that really matter. As a leader it is up to him to deliver the goods.
Glenn Nøstdahl is customer focused. No matter what he has been involved in, he has understood that without customers, any business is doomed to fail. And so everything that he does is directed at what his customers need, or toward what he can tell they are going to need. He also has a vision of where his company is headed, whether it is Entecho or the Dolphin Group ASA, or any other company he has been associated with. It is not just the CEO who needs to be concerned about this. Glenn Nøstdahl thinks every member of a company's groups should have an idea of where the company is headed, and be able to communicate it.
As a leader, Glenn Nøstdahl is also skilled at delegating and considers this one of the most important traits of any leader. As productive as he can personally be, he has learned that doing big things means getting a lot of work done through others. He has become skilled at finding the right person to take on specific projects.
Glenn Nøstdahl knows that his leadership style sets the tone for those he works most closely with.
Glenn Nøstdahl: Hitting the Slopes
Glenn Nøstdahl is the Financial Strategy Manager at Entecho, a leader in producing innovative flight technology, including flight control avionics and software, composite technology, and Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis.
He is also an active outdoorsman who loves nothing more than hitting the slopes to get in some ski time. Since his days in his native Norway, Glenn Nøstdahl has relished the sensation of gliding down the side of a mountain, surrounded by snowcapped peaks; he says that it is one of the great pleasures of his life, and that there is nothing else quite like it.
It is not uncommon for Glenn Nøstdahl to find himself out skiing with those with a lot less experience than he has. He urges them to hit the bunny hill first, those easy, gently sloping beginner hills, where the novice skier can get a sense of what it is like to be on skis. He reminds the true beginners to take it slow at first and to wear a helmet, because chances are they will fall down more than once until they get the feel of it.
There are a lot of things to have on hand for a day on the slopes that might not occur to a beginner, such as sunglasses and sunscreen. Skiers always need them during the day, says Glenn Nøstdahl, but they are especially important on sunny days, when the glare off of bright white snow can be blinding, and exposed skin can burn just as easily as if it were a day at the beach during summer.
Glenn Nøstdahl - Staying Fit On Two Wheels
Glenn Nøstdahl is a professional businessman and entrepreneur who is currently the Financial Strategy Manager at Entecho, a designer and developer of flight technology.
He is also an active runner and cyclist who has found riding a bicycle on a regular basis is a great way to stay physically fit. Riding a bike is a great form of aerobic exercise, which means it boosts the heart rate and strengthens muscles, increases joint mobility, and can reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury. But more to the point, Glenn Nøstdahl knows that riding a bike is a lot of fun.
Studies have shown that people who ride even short distances can boost their overall health and even extend their normal life expectancy. And is can keep the body lean: as Glenn Nøstdahl knows, riding a bike for just one hour will burn about three hundred calories, depending on how strenuous the ride is. That's just about equal to the calories in a chocolate bar. So by riding a bike for just fifteen minutes every day, five times a week, is going to burn off about eleven pounds of fat in the course of a year.
Cycling can also reduce stress, which is another point in its favor, according to Glenn Nøstdahl, whose professional life can be very stressful at times. The physical exertion itself tends to reduce stress, but as Glenn Nøstdahl knows, riding a bike outdoors heightens the overall experience. The sense of being at one with nature, and being away from the office, enhances the ability of bike riding to reduce stress.
Cycling is one of those things you are always able to do, and Glenn Nøstdahl expects he'll be riding a bike for the rest of his life.
