News from Glacier Peak
April 7, 2023
Remarks from Mr. Griffin
April is here! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoyed the recent spring break. It truly is amazing how quickly the second semester goes by each year. Thank you in advance for reviewing the details in this newsletter as we already have one week completed for April.
We have a busy couple of months ahead, and it’s been a great two weeks back. This week, our fourth graders began our annual Colorado Measures of Academic Success testing with both our third and fifth graders to begin next week. We appreciate your partnership to provide encouragement to your students and to ensure they are here for all testing days!
In addition to CMAS, there are additional events that you won't want to miss including spirit nights, continuation celebrations, and some end-of-the-year field trips. In the newsletter below you will find many important dates you may want to put on your family calendar. The month of May will be here before you know it, so I have added some end-of-the-year dates for review.
Now that we have fully arrived in Spring, the weather is beginning to transition to warmer days and our lost and found is overflowing with sweatshirts and jackets. Students tend to take off their layers and forget to pick them up. Encourage our young Grizzlies to take the time to look through the lost and found area for any missing items. Also, with spring comes the opportunity to leave the car at home for drop off and pick up and join your students in walking to and from school. Please remember:
While many of us have our own dogs and other animals at home, it is Adams 12 District Policy that no dogs or other animals are allowed on school property, especially during arrival and dismissal time. Thank you for your understanding.
Thanks so much for your continuous support! I cannot express enough gratitude for this amazing community. If you have any comments, questions, feedback, or compliments, don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me an email at tim.griffin@adams12.org.
In Partnership,
Tim Griffin
Principal

CMAS State Testing for Grades 3, 4, & 5
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students have been working SO hard this year, and we want to honor that and ensure this testing season is a positive experience. We understand that this can be a stressful time and want to provide you with information that can be helpful and reassuring.
General reminders:
State testing is ONE way that schools are measured. The results are ONE piece of evidence of the teaching and learning at a school.
We are proud of our practices and rigorous academics and strive to do our best serving your students every day.
Our students work hard and we are always excited to see their progress.
We want students to be excited to show their learning and lean into this opportunity.
We ask that students take their time, think through the problems, use their resources such as scrap paper, and do their best work.
What we are doing at Glacier Peak
We understand that students experience testing fatigue and therefore have scheduled the tests in a way that allows us to celebrate learning and focus on testing for two or three weeks, but then return to regular instruction immediately after this.
Setting a positive tone. We’ll be intentional about the words and tone we use when speaking about the testing. It’s important to acknowledge that it might feel stressful, but we’re going to provide lots of encouragement and helpful strategies to persevere. We’ll work to avoid added pressure to perform.
What you can do at home:
Set a positive tone. Be intentional about how you speak about testing. Maintain a balance between acknowledgment and encouragement, working to avoid added pressure to perform.
Ensure students are getting a good night’s sleep, have a healthy breakfast, and bring a water bottle throughout the testing window.
Be sure they are charging their Chromebook NIGHTLY.
Teachers may be asking for positive letters or emails, please provide these encouraging words to your students, they have worked extremely hard.
Once testing begins in class, any student who arrives late cannot join their class and will have to make up testing during other times of the day. Students have been working extremely hard all year and we simply want them to try their best and take their time. They are amazing Grizzlies and we know they will do amazing.
