Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
I want to start tonight by extending my thanks and the grateful thanks of all within the FSS community to all of our veterans for their service to our nation!
We have several events on campus and beyond this week. Tomorrow, the FSS School Council meets after school in the library. On Friday, our 8th graders will travel to Columbia Point, in Boston to visit the JFK Library and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. This is a dynamic field trip where students will assume roles as Senators and argue for and against the passage of landmark legislation.

We are thrilled to announce that Newbery Honor award-winning author Steve Sheinkin will be coming to Florence Sawyer School on December 6 to speak to students in grades 4-8. Mr. Sheinkin is famous for writing nonfiction books in a way that makes them accessible and exciting to young readers.
Some titles of books he has written for middle schoolers include Port Chicago 50, Undefeated: Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian School Football Team, Lincoln’s Grave Robbers, Bomb, and for elementary readers Time Twisters, King George: What Was His Problem? and The Whole Hilarious Story of the American Revolution.
There are many interesting books for students to explore. More information can be found at http://stevesheinkin.com/books/. Students who purchase one of his books can bring them in by December 4 and have them set aside for signing by Mr. Sheinkin.
Winter is coming! The 8th-grade students are selling wreaths and poinsettias for the upcoming winter season. Order forms were sent home. There is a link to the form here and is also located in the Virtual Backpack. Order are due by November 26. The pickup date for orders is December 7 from 3:30-7 in the Florence Sawyer School lobby.
