A Thanksgiving Story
This has been posted a few times over the years from various sources - but I always appreciate it.
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: “I am blind, please help.”
There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were.
The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, “Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?”
The man said, “I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.” I wrote: “Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it.”
Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people that they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story:
Be grateful for all your blessings, keep your thoughts positive and creative. When you find yourself in a challenging or sad situation, remind yourself of all the reasons you have to be thankful for. Let go of your regrets from the past, or fears about the future, and keep a hopeful heart focusing on today, share your blessings with random acts of kindness and you will enrich your life even more.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

An Additional Reminder:
November is School Improvement Month! The focus for our learning is the Michigan models for continuous improvement and program evaluation. Some will be gaining that learning at the Fall School Improvement or MERA conference. Others should plan on connecting to the learning virtually. For those that are utilizing the virtual university - please choose either the Mi-CSI course or Program Evaluation found here and send me a screen shot once completed.
Collaborative Work Teams
Through the work of the Alignment team - the need for two work groups has been identified. If you are interested in participating on a Collaborative Work Team please make your choice as soon as possible. If you are wondering about the time commitment, please see below:
· The district-centric team, focused on identifying a common definition of what District-centric means, will likely hold 2 - 3 meetings this year.
· The reporting system team, focused on identifying a potential system that might collect information about our work with districts, will likely hold 3 - 4 meetings this year.
