Motorized vehicles

The Town of Sunnyvale would like to provide a courtesy reminder that minor children without a valid driver's license are not legally permitted to operate a motorized vehicle on public roadways, including golf carts, go kart's, etc. Go karts are unregistered motor vehicles and are not permitted on public roadways.

Numerous calls for service regarding this issue have been brought to the Town's attention. Please be advised that minors can be cited for operating a motor vehicle without a license, failure to maintain financial responsibility (no insurance), and the vehicle could also be towed at the owner's expense. Parents or guardians can also receive a citation for allowing an unlicensed driver to drive, if caught permitting this. We want to ensure that residents are aware of these laws.

If you have any additional questions, please contact Police Chief Andrew Hawkes.

Reminder: Pay-by-phone is now available!
