The Bray Blast
Parent Communication / November 5-16, 2018
From the Principal's Desk
As we enter the holiday season, I am "Thankful" for each one of you and the impact you have on my life. I am "Thankful" for my family, friends, colleagues, and the amazing teachers whom serve with me right here at Bray. During this season stop and take the time to reflect on the blessings in your life and all you have to be "Thankful"for. School will be closed during the week of November 19-23, 2018 in observance of Thanksgiving Day. Remember to take time and enjoy your family, kids, and eat some really good food.
I anxiously await for each week to begin to see what I will "GET" to learn from my interactions with my scholars and how my actions will impact our Bray community. Bray Squad members are working very hard to meet the individual needs of each scholar daily. We are encountering a problem with attendance. As a campus, our attendance is falling below our 98% goal. Last week our "Campus Weekly Absent" fell below the record number of 62 absences and for 50 absences for the week. I fully understand scholars being sick, but if your scholar is not sick please ensure they are present and on-time for school daily. Bray Squad members are unable to move the Academic needle when our scholars are not at school. We have thrilling, action packed, and engaged lesson plans planned, but desperately need your scholar in attendance to deliver all that we have to impart in their lives.
* Every Second Counts
* Attendance Matters
* Team Work Makes the Dream Work
Just a reminder:
The number one question I am asked by parents is, "How can I help my child at home?" Read to, with, and by your little scholar every night. The most impact any parent can have on their scholar's education and future is to foster a love of reading. Reading will unlock the doors to new worlds, opportunities, and a brighter future in any career path. Reading at home with your scholar for 20 minutes per day starting in Kindergarten will expose them to 1.8 million words per year. Start reading with your scholar today and open a world of opportunity and imagination tomorrow.
Thank You,
Principal Sterling
CHISD Spirit Day!
Longhorn Family,
Wear your spirit gear a day early! Tomorrow night is the Battle of Belt Line—the biggest game of the season; the Longhorn football team will face the DeSoto Eagles. Staff and scholars are encouraged to wear red tomorrow; jeans are permitted.
If you can't make it to the game in DeSoto at 7:30 p.m., watch it live on WFAA's Facebook page or follow updates on the district's Twitter page (@cedarhillisd). If you're not on social media, check the district's homepage; Twitter updates can be seen on the lower right side of the website.
This is more than a football game; this is a way to build camaraderie beyond our walls. We have something no other district in the Best Southwest has—Longhorn Pride.
Let's show everyone why CHISD is the Leading Choice!
Proud to be your superintendent,
Dr. Billy Snow
P.S. Spirit wear and jeans are still permitted on Friday.
