Happy 2020 CES Families & Friends,
Welcome back! We had an enjoyable week welcoming our students back to 2020. Teachers reviewed expectations, practiced routines and even encouraged students to set some goals for 2020. We enjoyed seeing all of our students after such a long break. Additionally, we welcomed 9 new students! We love it!
Upcoming snow! We anticipate a few inches of snow this week. When we receive excessive snow we may have to call a 2 hour delay or even cancel school. An email and phone call will go out by 6:00 am if there are any delays or cancellations. Please refer to our earlier newsletters if you'd like to learn more about our practices to determine school delays and closures.
Please dress warmly. With the anticipated snow please make sure your child is prepared to be outside for recess. We will most likely be getting outside to enjoy some fresh air and exercise, despite the weather, with the exception of heavy rain. Water proof clothing (ex snow pants and water resistant jacket) are strongly suggested.
Writing Contest for all grades! Ms. Bainbridge is sponsoring a writing contest for all CES students with a topic on "How does diversity benefit our world (or, how does variety help us?)?" Students can write about any benefits of diversity they choose - people, plants, animals, landscapes, etc. Entries are due February 14. Students may include art work and there are no length or format requirements. Parents are welcome to assist with the initial brainstorming. (3rd-6th grade parents - suggest students use their Step Up To Writing organization strategies.) Winners from each grade get to dip their hand in a money jar! We hope to see all of our students participating. Thanks Ms. Bainbridge!
Student names with pictures. Just to be safe, we don't typically identify a student in a picture for safety reasons, especially since this newsletter is shared electronically and posted to Facebook. We have some outstanding students (and parents) being featured this week with our December students of the month! We will recognize some students for their outstanding character at our January 27 Monday Morning Meeting assembly.
Lunch update. Our lunchroom is now serving Papa Murphy's pizza on Fridays. Students receive 1 slice with their meal, and if they want another slice they can buy them for $2/slice.
Homework club cancelled. Unfortunately, we have to suspend our homework club at this time. We do not have the staffing available and not all of our students were benefiting from the experience. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Reading each night? 20 minutes/night. Send me your pictures and your favorite books and we'll put them in an upcoming newsletter! Thanks for considering!
In closing, we appreciate your ongoing support and teaming with us to make 2019-2020 an exceptional elementary experience for our students. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!
