Raupp Museum Visit's Ms. Tapling's Class!
Virtual Visit from Computer Programmer, Robert Lambert!
Friday December 18th, computer programming expert Robert Lambert stopped into Ms. Rodriguez's virtual classroom to talk about the importance of learning something new everyday, grit, passions, and of course computer programming.
Mr. Lambert began his presentation with his background and the age he started coding, third grade. He continued by answering student questions about coding and the importance of having grit.
In Mr. Lambert's words, he said that at times life becomes difficult and frustrating, but it is the people who keep trying that become the best. He highlighted how one of his passions, music writing, is tied to his success in math and computer programming. Mr. Lambert ended his presentation with a guitar performance of one of his self-written songs.
Thank you Mr. Robert Lambert for taking time out of your busy day to motivate and inspire the virtual bilingual students of Dr. Rodriguez!!
Author Visit: Mr. Tom Latourette
Ms. Endacott's class participated in an author visit by Mr. Tom Latourette, author of I Had an Upset Stomach and I Had A Runny Nose. His read aloud represented a silly tale that kept the class laughing! Mr. Latourette came to visit our class virtually to share his funny stories and was such a joy to have!
He has a new book coming out in March of 2021, Opera Baby!
Palatine Public Library and District 15 presents SORA!
Thanks to a partnership with the Palatine Public Library, all District 15 students are able to access SORA, a digital and audio book app for students! If your student does not have both CCSD15 and Digital Library of Illinois listed in his or her SORA menu (three lines in the top right), the account will need to be set up. Please follow these instructions to get started.
PBIS Character Trait Focus for December and Janurary!
PBIS at Winston Campus Elementary establishes clear expectations of behaviors needed for our students to be successful. The Winston Campus Elementary PBIS matrix for expected behaviors focuses on the areas of respect for self/others, respect for the school environment, and respect for learning. These behavioral expectations are explicitly taught, modeled, and reinforced across all settings by all school personnel. These efforts create a school environment that supports effective academic and social/emotional instruction for all students.
Our Climate and Culture Team meets monthly to review office referral data and minor referral data. Through analyzing our data, the Climate and Culture team determined that we wanted to target the skill of "Being Responsible" for the month of December and January.
Please review the following poster contest we are hosting to encourage students to be Responsible with their Learning!
Reminder: Fully Power Down Chromebooks Each Night
Please be sure to power down your chromebooks completely each night and not just close them. The chromebooks do not auto-update from home if they have not been fully powered down. This is especially important to avoid technology issues.
Dress for the Weather: Recess and PE Outside!
Students generally go outside for recess and PE every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor’s note excusing him/her from outdoor activities.
Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°–10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal’s discretion, the students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Other considerations include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation. For indoor recess, students are supervised in their classrooms.
District 15’s Inclement Weather Protocols
As we enter the winter season, we want to remind families of District 15 families of the district’s emergency closing protocol. The school district takes the responsibility of deciding to close schools very seriously, and will only close in the event of extremely inclement weather.
If school is canceled, that decision is made by 5 a.m. You will be notified of the closure in a variety of ways:
Phone, Text, and Email—District 15 will send a message to all parents through a voice call, text message and email. Please ensure your contact information listed in the Infinite Campus is accurate. If you have changes you'd like to make to your personal contact information, please log into the Parent Portal and adjust your contact information.
Website—If classes are canceled due to inclement weather, an announcement will be posted on ccsd15.net and all of our school websites.
Social Media—School closures will be posted on the district’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Radio and TV—Should a snow day be called, District 15 will inform television and radio stations.
For more information on emergency school closures and severe cold response plans, please visit our website.

What to Expect at School During Covid -19
Health Reminders for In-Person Learning
Self-Certification
As we return to in-person learning, there are some very important health and safety protocols that students entering the buildings will need to remember. As parents/guardians, your full participation and adherence to all guidelines will help ensure everyone stays healthy as we resume face-to-face instruction.
COVID symptom self-certification is required for all people entering the building each day. Please remember that an adult needs to sign the self-certification card (sent home in most schools’ materials pick-up) daily. Lanyards have been distributed and cards will need to be presented at the door upon entry to school. Staff will do a secondary temperature screening with a touchless thermometer before each child enters the building.
As of September 10, the IDPH COVID-19 symptoms to check for daily include:
Fever of 100.4 or higher, new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain from unknown cause, new congestion/runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches.
Students who do not have their self-certification cards signed upon arrival will be asked the symptom screening questions prior to being allowed inside of the school. Please know this will delay the start of your child’s learning, so we ask that you partner with us and please ensure you ask your child(ren) symptom screener questions as part of your new morning routines, sign and return the card to the lanyards so they are ready to go each morning. Your full cooperation will expedite getting symptom-free students into school.
Face Coverings
As required by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois State Board of Education, face coverings must be worn by students at all times while inside the building, except when eating or drinking. *Per IDPH guidelines updated August 13, neck gaiters/athletic neck warmers are not acceptable forms of face coverings. All other cloth or medical face coverings are permitted.
Your child is expected to come to school with a face mask each day. If you do not have a mask for your child, please contact your school office. If your child qualifies for a face covering medical exemption, a physician’s note must be on file with the school's main office.
Other Considerations:
Snacks will not be permitted to be eaten in the classrooms and we encourage all students to bring a water bottle to school each day.
Physical Education classes will be held outside following our cold weather policy and procedures. Please remember to send your child to school dressed appropriately with boots, hats, gloves, and winter coats!
Please be aware that the revised IDPH health and safety guidelines require that siblings/household members of symptomatic individuals must also be excluded from in-person learning. This is the case even if a sibling/household member is not showing any symptoms of illness. Please contact the school nurse if this shall occur.
